I was Photographing this red tailed Hawk. it was a nice sunny day. he looked fine, normal.. I had my camera set so it would snap a few pictures in a burst.. I had one with him looking fine with his back toward me and next thing you know He or she.. "Lifted it's skirts" so to speak and I made this discovery... apparently this bird went for a swim! It was completely soaked underneath! I don't know if it tried to grab an aquatic prey like a frog or something - i have never seen them do that.. I wish I had been around to witness it. but All i got is this one cool pic of a totally wet bird!

Wonderful picture! I don't know if they dive for prey or not, I'd have to look it up. You never know, maybe they just get hot like we do and take a dip!

possibly. I suppose if he saw a frog he might go for it.. :)

@minx267 Something like that would be too tempting to resist.

i love the bird, i love your talent in photography. i think it is hard to catch a bird drying itself after the bath, and i appreciate you were able to take a pic of it

Thank you. I've been taking lots of photos lately. But I am having computer problems and can not upload them as often as I want.

This is a very funny photo. Perhaps this red tail hawk just had a bath.

Thank you. I like it. but a little to much motion has blurred the tail feathers.

I've seen birds rolling around in a bird bath in our neighbour's garden. I think they do it to get rid of the insects they have in and under their feathers. They also do this on sandy ground.

it can be a dangerous bird. you don't want to mess with the claws or the beak.
