Once. I was in Italy with my parents and my sister. It was during our family vacation in summer. I barely spoke English so I dont remember what language they were speaking. About 3 children came out from nowhere and they try to steal my mom's purse. I had to fight with them so that my mom can hold on to her purse.

Gypsies, are different all over the world, e.g. Here in ireland Gypsies are travelling people who mainly live in caravans and travel around ireland, they have some strange customs too, the sometimes (as far as i know) marry young (13/14) and the marriages are arranged, the usually marry their cousins, they speak english (with a dialect) or Irish (Gaelic), and they make money by selling things by the road side (mainly things that "Fell" of the back of a lorry.)

the Lambanis are other kind of gipsies ,in my country gipsies are not really a pleasant rase, they steal, they don't go to school, tey have no education or decency...they don't know the word respect for others, but just for themselves,if u don't give them money they will swear u and if its a mature gipsy asking u might even get beaten or killed,i think they are dangerous and they should get their own place to live, and not among us and our children

yes ... a many gipsy :) It is said that Gipsies, have lived in Egypt from the year 200 b.c. and that they were Pharos' slaves. The Gipsies were and some still are very good traditional craftmen and during the days of the Pharos the Gipsies made shields, swords and knives for soldiers. As slaves the Gipsies also had to row the big war ships. The Gipsies were nomads in those days. They travelled by means of wagons drawn by oxen from place to place across large areas in many parts of the world. They were housed in tents like most of the people in those days. It is also said that the Gipsies worked like today's circus people, they could shallow swords and fire. They were also fortune-tellers for pharos women. Although there were fears, these was also a curiousity about the powers of fortune-telling. The Gipsies who were less talented were forced to steal in order to take care of their families. The punishment for stealing was severe, one of their hands was cut off.

When I introduced this discussion topic, I thought no body will be interested in it. The type of responses that are coming through are really great. Your response is really interesting and in India the gypsies are still no mads. Government tried to give the shelter, they wouldn't. Thanks for thought provoking response.

Gipsy: The wandering people in Karnataka, India are known as Lambani's and their temporary place of stay is called 'Tada'. They make exquisite silver ornaments and many interesting handicrafts and they travel from place to place. They speak the local dialect with peculiar pronounciation.
