Don't Judge Me Before You Know Me

Okay, I always get weird looks from people when I tell them I was a Correctional Officer at an All Male Prison. And worked there for about 2 years. They seem to think they know me and when I tell them this they don't believe me. Why??? Is it because I look innocent? Is it because I look weak? Why do people judge me for how I look? I'm just as capable as the next guy. So why judge me?

if you put it on your cv or resume and the name of your supervisor, then it's up to them to do a background check to confirm if you worked there. so how did you end up working there? do they train you? was the contract only for 2 years?

I had to take a series of tests to even be eligible to apply. I had to take a psychological test to make sure I was mentally fit of the job. Then I had to take a psycholocial test similar to boot camp of the military to even apply.

We're often surprised when we find that our assumptions are wrong.

Some people are very quick to judge others. It's a shame but I guess it's just the way they are.

Many will always be quick to judge unfortunately. You seem to be a strong lady. Doesn't matter what others think.

Thank you but I don't feel strong sometimes, Sometimes I care too much of what other people think. I'll have to work on that.

@djbrat13 I have been through that many times. I used to care and still do but not as much. I don't let things bother me as much these days.

My current (female) pastor worked in corrections, and in security, before going back to school and becoming a pastor. I would not judge her by her looks either. She is capable and smart.

That's the problem for some. They judge a person without knowing him or her first

@djbrat13 I agree. I sometimes felt bad because some people cannot speak out. I am not going to force them to say things if they are hurting from within.

That must have been an interesting job. As you say, it's easy to jump to conclusions about someone and those conclusions may be completely erroneous.

I think it's partly human nature, You don't understand so you feel like you have to judge..
