Another surprise - but a nasty one this time

My last post was about finding a surprise in my shade-house. Discovering an orchid with beautiful flowers was a very pleasant surprise but the centipede I found on the kitchen floor was not such a welcome surprise. Apparently, they eat spiders and other nasties so I bundled it into a container and threw it outside. I know they can give a nasty sting so there was no way I was leaving it in the kitchen. And it’s only two days to our 49th wedding anniversary which will be another occasion for rejoicing. We’ll probably go out for dinner that evening.

@JudyEv You're welcome. I've never seen one, but I know I would scream myself silly.

@DianneN Never seen one? I thought they were everywhere although maybe not often seen. It's only a few inches long - hardly worth a big scream - maybe just a little 'eek'.

I didn't know centipedes could sting! Unless you are referring to the Australian centipedes, which would make perfect sense! haha So exciting that your 49th wedding anniversary is coming up! Congratulations!!!!! I can't wait until next year when you hit the big 5-0!

@JudyEv I'm going to put my money on the redback! Who won the battle between the two? Next year, if you want it to rain gold down on you for your 50th, you should write a post about it and start a GoFundMe account. haha

@moffittjc Do you think that would work? A GoFundMe account? But I'd have to live with myself after and that mightn't be so easy. I don't know who won the fight. I forgot to go back and look. When I did, both had disappeared so maybe something bigger came along and got both.

I'll be expecting gold to rain down on us next year. When we disturbed this guy, one end curled up and you could see the stingers. Here is one having an altercation with a redback. The stingers are on the right.

The sting must come from that nasty looking tail. I'm glad you put it outside. Though I've been known to just kill them when I see them in the house. I had a few in the house I owned before moving here.

One end reared up ready to get us when we tried to move it. Mostly I kill them too but Vince wanted to put outside so that is where it went. I don't know where they get in but they could crawl in under any of the doors I guess.

We were trying to get him on the dustpan and he stuck up his prongs ready to sting us. Heaven knows where he came from.

Congratulations for the 49 years. I am scared of centipedes and they somehow crawl into my house at times. I always kill them but hate the peculiar smell after they are killed.

Centipedes must be abundant in your place due to the sands and geographical conditions. They are really dangerous.

They appear occasionally. You'd wonder how they get in the house but we also see the odd cockroach. I guess they come in under the doors.
