Woke up in excruciating pain

From time to time, I get this excruciating, burning sensation in my tummy. On Thursday night, I barely slept because it reared its ugly head again. This was the worst it had ever been and the longest time it had lasted. It comes in waves and has me doubled over in pain. This time it was so intense I felt dizzy and felt nauseous. Each time I've sought medical help, I've been told it could be heartburn or acid reflux. But I just don't know. I don't drink alcohol or fizzy drinks. I don't eat very spicy food. It's so painful I wouldn't wish it on even my worst enemy! Have you ever experienced this? And what did you do to get rid of it? Image credit: Coffee @pixabay.com

Yes. I went to the ER. They injected a medicine in my veins. They gave me antacids. And Omeprazole.

Aww sorry to hear that I keep using anti-acids but think I may go see a doctor soon because it comes and goes.

I really cannot diagnose this, but may I suggest you go and take the Covid-19 test. Just as a precautionary measure!

Hmmm that's random - I'm not sure what COVID-19 has to do with it? I've had this condition for years, long before COVID-19. And with this latest bout, I had no COVID-19 symptoms at all. I took the medication I was given and I'm ok now. But thanks for the suggestion - I guess.

@nitsbubb Hahaha no, honestly I'm NOT at all offended and sorry if I gave you that impression. I just thought it was a bit random, that's all. You know, like if I said I have toothache and somebody said, go get checked for COVID-19 Maybe it's just my dry sense of humour LOL Oh, and thank you

Could be acidity and it does not require any particular reason to develop. Try drinking some cold milk when you get that pain and see it it recedes.

Thanks so much for your thoughts Interestingly enough, I did consider milk but took some anti-acid solution instead. I'll try milk next time if it ever comes back.

Thank you so much I hope so, too. I've got some pills that my local pharmacist recommended, so at least I'd be ready and waiting for the next bout if it comes back!

@Tampa_girl7 Thank you I'm much better now, so they must have worked. I've also started taking a small pinch of baking soda with my coffee in the morning as per @crazyhorseladycx's suggestion. Not every day but regularly. I was surprised to read on the packaging that it lists one of its uses as a remedy for acid!

Thanks so much for your kind words, @crazyhorseladycx - I really appreciate it, they mean the world I've also wondered about ulcers but when I've visited the doctors, they've never picked up on it. I may well look into herbal remedies.

Oh no that is not good they need to do thorough work up. As in MRI or imaging whatever you call it. That could be anything. I am so sorry you are suffering. That does not sound like heartburn.

Luckily, the doctors don't seem concerned, not in a blasé kind of way but rather because it's fairly common. Plus the medication I was prescribed works a treat. Thank you for your kind words :)

Oh, how awful. I wonder if it's stress. That used to happen to me, too, for years. My doctor gave me muscle relators which I took for one month, and they rarely returned after that.

I'm so happy to hear yours have eased off after the last treatment. I have wondered if it was stress-related too.

@Lushlala I'm pretty sure it was stress related, and am so happy it stopped when I retired from teaching.

@DianneN I'm so glad to hear it subsided once you left teaching. Teaching has become more and more stressful it's crazy. I trained to become a teacher but ultimately went into journalism and then customer service because my mum would tell me about her horrible experiences with her students and it put me right off
