I really loved watching documentary programs, especially documented by my favorite hosts. One of the beautiful episode I've watched was about the lives of indigenous students (Mangyan Tribe)from the mountain somewhere in Mindoro,a province in the Philippines. They were days, whom the students, instead of carrying books, notebooks and pens or other school materials, they brought root crops, fruits and the likes. The reason was, after school they were going to sell those commodities. They had to went down the mountain, where they met middlemen or buyers.Ofcourse, living on the mountain top, hours to count before you reach the town where they can sell their commodities. The fastest way to get there,is the river. They used inflatable rubber interior of the big tires from trucks or bamboos, which they called ''balsa'' or raft. They will tied all the products they harvested to make sure it was secured. The river was odd, there were deep parts, some parts were shallow. And so the current are strong, that makes it more dangerous, for those who doesn't know to swim.It looks like a white water rafting adventure. The host was a bit scared, but I think she enjoyed it much.It took a couple of hours before they reached the town. They sold their commodities, but sadly to heard that every kilos of the products they brought, just valued as low as 2 pesos, for them to have a hundred pesos, they should have 50 kilos goods. Some earned 300 php(about 6-7 US $ ),a father who have 3 or 4 kids.He said, this 300 pesos he earned was their budget for two whole weeks, before they harvest and sell it again. He quickly bought a kilo of rice and some basic needs. In reality, living here in a city,300 pesos actually isn't enough for a day for a family of four members(A family should have a minimum of atleast 12,000 php to lived better. In fact,300 pesos is just an allowance of some richie rich students for a day in school, for transpo, food etc.Because cost of living here is expensive. But them, the indigenous people, work hard, but earned a little, and had to be thrifty.Three kids from school who also sold their harvests, earned as much as 300 php. After they sold those, they went straight to a small eatery, where they ate their favorite food, rice and a chicken. They said, they rarely eat rice, only after they earned some money. They also watched old movie,it's like a small movie house, but just a TV and uses Betamax. Some of them also played color games. You can saw smile on their faces,by doing those simple things. It really touches my heart.Because for me,what they did was just an ordinary. But for them,it's a treasure of their lifetime.Simple but brought happiness in their hearts.Ordinary but becomes extra ordinary.I realized how fortunate and blessed not just myself,my family or all other kids I knew.Who are priviledge, experienced good lives.Who doesn't need to worked,as dangerous as those indigent people. So don't take things for granted.Be thankful and appreacite every little to big things you have.I don't generalized,I know not everybody was like these, but I realized, people who has less was more appreciative than those who had more. They were more grateful and complacent, having contentment.I hope, one day, they too obtain better lives they deserve.
