Kids

It's funny how kids can simultaneously make you feel both old and young at the same time. I always judge years based on my son's age or the age of other kids I knew. For instance, if it has been a long time since I've seen someone I use their child's age at the time vs. their age now to determine how long it has been. I babysat kids up until my son was probably about five. Seeing these kids all grown up now is incredibly disheartening. Nothing makes you feel old like realizing kids you babysat are adults now. I remember the one little boy I watched I was in my late teens or early 20s and I played basketball with him and I beat him and he immediately shouted: "I can't believe I was beaten by an old lady!" I laugh even more now because he's about the same age I was when I beat him. If I ever run into him again I should ask him how it feels to be an old man. I love kids and always have. I just wasn't always a fan of their parents. It's the biggest reason I got out of the field. Kids have all of this potential and I love seeing them learn and grow. Kids are literally the most comical little people due to their lack of filter sometimes. They think it they say it and it's almost always hilarious even when it probably shouldn't be. I took on my son's cub scout den because no one else wanted the job and I wasn't even sure I did but being around them always makes me smile. I forgot how much I enjoyed being around kids. I felt young being around them today laughing and joking with them but also keeping a serious tone because I had to keep them focused. Their youth has a way of rubbing off on you sometimes but it also can be exhausting. I found even my husband has been enjoying it. We genuinely like working with them which again we didn't think we would. It makes me miss working with kids. Even long after the kids I worked with forget me I'll continue to remember them and the impression they left on me. I may be just another face in the crowd because they were too young to remember me but to see them all grown up and doing well makes me smile. I always hope for the best for the kids I've worked with. I love seeing them as teenagers and adults and seeing how they've turned out even if it does make me feel old sometimes. I started working with kids when I was pretty much a kid myself. There are aspects I don't miss about it but the kids themselves I miss.

I don't know honey, but kids always make me feel old (I am old). Because all they do now is very different from what I do back then when I was around their age. I often compare it ??.

lol they can do that but if you get down with kids they can make you feel mentally youthful. I often feel a nice combination of the two. I compare too and it is a different world. Even ten years is a big difference with the way technology works now. It's just interesting.

@Cheyee I have one kid and he keeps my mind going. Constantly asking questions and challenging me. He's fun to talk to but he exhausts me at times too.
