The Drinking Glass

The image of the glass has always been used - 'the glass half full or the glass half empty' or 'fill the glass to the brim, walk around the block, what do you see?' The glass is for drinking. That is a given. Eighty per cent of our body is water. Roughly. That is why we are advised to drink eight glasses of water each day. The question is why? Why do we need to drink? Actually, the act of drinking holds a metaphor of some sort. We need to quench our thirst. There's a thirst for wealth, fame, glory. There's a thirst for power or physical beauty. That is why people surgically alter their faces and their bodies. Even the color of their skin. But all this to naught, one realizes, when the skin finally becomes like a bitter gourd. The image of the drinking glass is a reminder that we must work to sustain the soul that never rots.

What I love about aging is how accepting of myself I have become. Good morning

It is a good morning. Thank you. Hope you are enjoying your Sunday morning, too. Know what, I thought about aging, too, perhaps three times in the past. I don't know but except for some backaches and the despicable neuropathy, I am as I was when I was young. You are correct, when we learn to accept what we've become, age, as they say, is just a number.

I usually can't even drink a glass of water in a day. No way would I ever drink 8 glasses. Unless I was super super thirsty. Hard for me to force water into myself if I am not thirsty.

Must be the weather. Ours is a tropical country. We do drink more than eight glasses when the weather is searing hot.

Thanks for this reminder. There is wisdom in aging. i cannot understand why people still go under knife just to hide their real ages. Literally speaking, I cannot bring myself to.drinking 8 glasses of water a day. lol.

Yes, I do not support aesthetic surgeries. Our faces are just fine. Of course there would always be more beautiful or not so beautiful faces than ours, but our faces are our own. I wouldn't even pluck a hair from my brow. I don't understand why the brows are shaved for arched tattoos. Cleopatra is pretty but she also reminds me of King Tut. Besides, Mona Lisa's lack of brows has a softer touch.

Yup. That is true about water. Our body needs water. Metaphorically, the water quenches the soul.
