Well, it's finally over

I am amazed at the energy I felt when that victory was announced. While a good many are celebrating, I know that nearly half this nation is disappointed, some are angry and feel there has been some kind of backroom dealing going on. Regardless, the election is over, and for me, that is a big deal. Now, hopefully, life can get back to something more normal. It is my sincere hope that the divisions that remain like a gaping wound in this country can begin to heal now. To be sure, there will still be a lot of sniping. There will be those who still espouse extremist points of view > On both sides of the political divide <

I have watched CNN for the last 5 days in anticipation of the Americans Votes - I am very pleased for the world that Prs Elect J Biden has won and best of luck to every American under the United States.

That's the problem he hasn't won and the media are making it sound like he did. The official winner has not been decided yet as votes are still being counted.

@lovebuglena Granted, the election has not been certified as yet. That will not happen for a few weeks. But it has always been this way However, and I do understand this, the mathematics show beyond any reasonable doubt the remaining ballots will not give Trump enough to win. Though it is still a remote possibility he could win Arizona and Georgia, it is unlikely. However, even if both turned around and gave Trump a win, it would not be enough to tip the scales overall. So far, lawsuits that have been filed seem to be lacking any substantive evidence which is seeing them be thrown out. I read that William Barr has authorized federal prosecutors to investigate any fraud Whether this is done at the request of the President or on his own initiative, I don't know. Either way, I seriously doubt they will find anything significant enough to change the final outcome. It is exceedingly difficult to fake a ballot. To do tens of thousands of them? Let's just say the odds are very much against it.

@cperry2 I love how well and how patiently you have explained everything. I've read all your comments. You should run for politics! You'd have my vote.

I've been watching the race off and on. I am not sure when it was finally called. I was not surprised by the outcome but hope the fallout isn't so bad. Trump is still president for another two months. So no matter what happens, I pray that we don't start having a repeat of 2016.

They projected the winner but that is all that is, a projection. There is no official winner and so no official next president. We will know that in January.

Yeah, that was an ugly mess. I remember how disappointed I was that Clinton lost but I accepted it and moved on. What I went through back then is probably what a lot of Trump followers are having to do right now. I do worry about the extremeist groups who are out there. They are the people we need to be wary of.

@lovebuglena It will not take until January for us to know who the "official" winner is, That will happen on December 14th. But January 20th is when the winner takes over.

It will happen, eventually. I cannot see Trump being able to pull off a coup, though he may well try.

The problem when the voting comes up as it has is, as you say, half the population being unsatisfied. I fear there will be a lot of unrest for quite some time to come. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree. There have been a few isolated incidents already. But so far, the police have been there to stop it.

From what I read about the electoral college it ain't over till the electors actually vote, which happens in December.

This is true, and it is possible that there will be some unreliable electors who will switch sides. A few have done this in the past, but it is not a common occurance. Then of course the Congress has to follow that up with its own certification.

@cperry2 I didn't really know about the electoral college before and thought people vote, the candidate automatically gets a certain # of electoral votes for the state he won the popular vote in, and if he gets 270 or more he wins. Now I know that is not the case.

@cperry2 And knowing that electors actually have to cast their votes, etc. I can't accept JB as the winner until all is said and done and made official.

Yes, it will take some time for the disappointment of some to subside. Then maybe, just maybe we can pull together as a country and once again be the shining light the rest of the world wants to emulate. But that part will take time too.

I think it will. There have been a few calls for some of these fringe groups to meet up in state capitals, but to date, they have only been a few handfuls of people total for any call ups they have done in the past. Not only that law enforcement is on high alert right now.
