A Bridge to the Future.

It is time for the American people to move on and focus on other issues that face this nation. First and foremost is the coronavirus. It has, as infectious disease scientists have predicted, taken a turn that is now seeing rapid spread throughout the country. The virus recognizes no boundaries in who it attacks. People of ALL ages (including children), ALL colors, and ALL economic levels are dying from it. Not all the dead had underlying health issues. Places that have been the most vocal against following precautions are now seeing some of the worst outbreaks. Nor are those areas doing any better in the financial realms than those that did take precautions. This outbreak is expected to get much worse --- everywhere. Due to the Coronavirus, this winter promises to be one of the darkest in American history --- BUT, we can each reduce our risks by wearing a mask, washing our hands often, and distancing when and where possible. I can say, from personal experience, wearing a PROPER* mask correctly is both uncomfortable and cumbersome. But, I wear it anytime and anywhere I may come in contact with others. That includes outdoors if in close proximity to other people. (I carry it in my pocket when there are no other people nearby.) I have taken these precautions since the beginning of the outbreak in the US. Mask wearing is not now and never has been a political statement on my part. Mask wearing is not now and never has been a question of my personal freedom. It has always been about protecting my health, the health of those I love, and those that I come into contact with. The American economy will not rebound unless people are healthy enough to function. Masks, hand washing, and distancing when possible will not interfere with economic recovery. Failing to, certainly will. Mask wearing and the other precautions are such a small thing, but they can and will make a huge difference. I feel certain there will be some who take exception to my words. Please understand this: I do not offer this post as an invitation to argument; I do not offer it as a political stance or statement. My words are offered as the title indicates, they are a bridge to the future: a future that includes us all. Photo is mine. * Info on proper masks and how to wear them can be found here: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html

We were not obliged to wear masks until two weeks ago. When the second wave arrived and they realized that this one is worse than the first and nothing worked, they made mandatory wearing the masks. The situation is still bad, but getting better. I think that we must stop being childish, they are not asking us to wear mask to violate our freedom, is for our safety and the safety of the others.

@cperry2 I know and I noticed that too many have been brainwashed by the one in power. He should be put in jail because what he said. If people wore masks since the beginning, we could have stopped the virus, I fear that now it is too late, we need medications.

@LadyDuck He is still defiant. Swearing that his administration will never do another lockdown. I just wish he was already gone and Biden could be in place to get things moving. Oh, well. We just have to protect ourselves as best we can.

Exactly right. While I do not wish this illness on anyone, people who ignore the simple precautions are just asking to get Covid. I know there are a lot of people, even here on myLot who do not wear them and will continue to refuse to wear them. Most or misguided, and/or misinformed. They cannot conceive that anyone in a position of power might be less than honest with them.

Uhm... wearing a mask doesn't protect your health... It protects the health of others. (Sorry. Not meaning to argue.) And I agree, masks are used for health reasons, and for nothing else!

No worries. The CDC has come out, today or yesterday stating that wearing a mask also protects the wearer.

@cperry2 OH! Sweet! My daughter and I always wear masks when we leave our house. We thought we were just protecting others. Thank you for telling me!

I agree most emphatically. Wearing a mask should never be seen as a political statement or an issue of personal freedom. Why can't people see it is purely and simply about keeping yourself and others safe.

I wear a mask where it is deemed necessary, when I go out and around stranger but otherwise no. If we are in for a dark winter I think it will be due to many winter time illnesses with covid likely being the least to worry about. I say that because covid has a 99% survival rating. That is actually higher than the flu.

@cperry2 It's truly annoying when people don't wish to follow these simple instructions to keep everyone safe. "We have rights" as a lot of these people are saying who refuse to wear a mask.

I pray that the Covid-19 outbreak will soon disappear from your country.
