Gunshots in the Night

I was just drifting off to dreamland Saturday night around midnight. Suddenly, five gunshots rang out somewhere near where I live. A few minutes later, sirens pierced the night. Shortly after that, a helicopter was circling my park and probably the areas around it. It kept going for a long time. I eventually fell asleep. I asked my son what he thought it could be about. He said it is probably a drug deal that went bad. I think he is right. Do you ever hear gunshots in your area? Do you ever hear what happened?

@akalinus I'm sure it wasn't good for sleeping. It would keep me up the rest of the night.

The only gunshots we'd ever hear would be people shooting kangaroos.

The gunshots we are likely to hear where we are now are hunters. Sirens are usually ambulance for some elderly fragile person. It is pretty peaceful here.

@akalinus No, it's really quiet where I live. (When I first moved here, it could get noisy... but I called the cops so often on my neighbors that the noisy ones moved elsewhere. I LIKE nice, quiet neighbors.)

@CarolDM Let's say that this area was a lot nicer when I moved here in 2002. It is a place that I can afford but it is being sold for the 4th time. Sooner or later it won't be cheap enough to live in.

I'm fine. It was not real close to me or anything. It mostly kept me awake, especially with the helicopter.

Sirens and helicopters but no gunshots ever. The helicopter could be one hospital sending a patient to a bigger hospital that way. My husband went by helicopter a year ago and the charge was 35,000.00 which the insurance picked up. The helicopter could also be hunting for escaped convicts wed never know.

The way it kept circling around, I think it was to search for someone, probably the shooter. That is a huge charge, I did not think that they cost so much. I hope your husband is doing well now.

That is indeed a jolt and unsettling. Only police force is allowed to bear arms, so never heard gunshots nearby

@akalinus That is very scary. I was on the porch one Saturday and heard something down below on my street and not sure what it was. I checked the news but did not find anything.I never found out what it was.

@akalinus I agree with you. The reason to find out is if someone was involved in the situation and they tell you.

@akalinus Yes,and it happened in 2005.I was 18 at that time.At about 7 p.m.in the evening I was on my way back home when I heard gunshots behind a small house.I stopped ,but a tea stall owner came rushing to me and asked me to leave the place.Back home I later came to know a gambler had gunned down someone after a brawl. The man was arrested the next day.
