Good sun... Good read and a big project going on....

Good afternoon. It's 3:30 PM. And it has been more than three hours that I am in sun on my terrace. The breeze is cold but sun is bright and warm. So an ideal day to enjoy the sunlight. I have got a good book and my phone with me to accompany me. So I am switching between reading and mylotting. I talked about the gardeners that I called today. They arrived on time and these two are real professional and quite affordable. They have been working for last three hours and more. And if you see the mess in the picture, it might take another couple of hours to finish it. But then a big project is over.. My garden needed it and I am glad that today it's done. A dozen old pots have been replaced with new ones. I have supervised them and they followed it well. I will definitely call them for service in future

@arunima25 They charge $30 an hour here, I call them if I need to cut a tree or to repair a fence, but I do all the rest myself.

I had one visiting once every week. But then he got irregular, unprofessional and it was a pain to keep up with him. I am more for this mode now. I will call them when I need to. I think that would be convenient and less expensive for me.

@LadyDuck I am also going to call them once in a while. It saves my energy and time. Also my health doesn't allow me too much of such work.

Plants need this intensive care at least twice a year. For more than 100 pots that I have, I need these professional help. Else it's quite taxing. Now they are cleaning and arranging the pots. After a long day, we are finally done

They were true professionals. They cleared up the mess. Packed the wastes in bags and now I just need to dispose them tomorrow. Even arranged the pots the way I directed them to do.

We need to repot plants every year and add organic compost every three months. Now that could not be done since last one year. And now when I got it done, I feel a big project is done. I will call them after three months to add compost and spray neem juice as pesticides. I have more than 100 pots including all shapes and sizes. I do need help for such work. Regular care is okay with me. Now it's getting cleaned and rearranged. I am going to order for seeds tonight. A lot of garden waste to be disposed tomorrow morning.

To me, half the fun is repotting myself. Our gardeners take care of the lawn and shrubberies.

It's fun to do everything in garden on my own. But it becomes too much for me to handle at times with all other things. A little professional help once in a while saves that time and energy. Now I won't need them for another few months

Once the mess is out of the way, then the garden should be inviting. In fact, we just spoke to a couple of gardeners to lay the foundation for a nice garden in our apartment complex. I cautioned my wife though that when we are away for months then some one should look after the garden but there is no assurance on that.

@arunima25 Yeah, that is the way. We came down to India end February to look after my mother and she passed away early May. The covid virus was just unfolding and we never thought we would get stuck here in Trivandrum. Our garden at the balcony and common area of our apartment in Singapore was quite large and we had given keys to a friend. Over time she couldn't manage and now we are left with very little of plants in pots. Here in India, it will be at the common area surrounding complex. There is no point in spending time and money if no one is going to take over when we go back to Singapore..

@arunima25 We can learn a lot from local gardening techniques especially from the Japanese I was fascinated to learn about micro forests: "Micro-Forests are the creation of renowned Japanese botanist, Akira Miyawaki, and feature small, dense plantings that grow 100 times faster, become 30 times denser and 100 times more biodiverse than conventional forests" I heard Kerala adopting it and hope that will also help us a lot to sustain nature. .

They cleaned up the place and now garden looks nice. It was worth a long day of work. You need to have someone to take care of plants when you are away. When we go out for vacation ( our summer vacation is 2 months long), I lock all rooms and take the keys with me. I keep the main gate key and terrace keys to my neighbor and my help takes it everyday to water the plants and give it back to them. I make sure that the pots from balconies and rooms are also moved to terrace before we leave.

We don't have services for gardener around here. The only service for hire is for lawn mower, mostly in cutting grass instead of anything else. As for gardening, everyone here will do it themselves. Almost half of people here are farmers after all. That's a part of their skill.
