Somerset Massachusetts Police Officer Matt Lima showed some mercy on December 20, 2020 at a Stop And Shop supermarket when he responded to a call from the management accused two females of shoplifting when they failed to pay for groceries at the self checkout line.
Keep in mind that Officer Matt Lima could have taken the two female shoplifters to jail since he was doing his duty to enforce the law.
However when the two females told the officer that they were stealing groceries to feed their families for Christmas since they were living on hard financial times due to the pandemic that has shut down many businesses around the nation.
Officer Lima who has children of his own decided to show the two females some mercy by paying the food bill of $250 dollars by using his own money.
Somerset Police Chief George McNeil praised Officer Lima for being a positive light for the community that he serves with compassion to persons who really need it.

@Deepizzaguy I understand that they must be sure that people respect the law, but when people are in need, the best is to help.

I agree with you since good deeds done by the police are seldom reported in the national news.

@Deepizzaguy Good deeds in the news aren't saleable but crimes and misdeeds are most publicized by the newspaper.

That was kind of him to do that for the two women.

The officer certainly did not have to do that; and I hope that the two women were telling the truth. He is a very caring and generous man.
