Is Democracy the Best Form of Government?

The state assembly elections that decide which political party will rule West Bengal are about five months away but it appears the campaign is in full swing. Every where we see party flags flying and party leaders are heard blaring fiery speeches in all parts of the state. But what is saddening that violence and clashes between party workers of rival parties have been claiming lives. It will undoubtedly get worse in the run up days of the polls. Sometimes, I ponder whether democracy is the best form of government! The Capitol hill incident is still fresh in our minds and it has raised many questions to which we must find answers.

Actually, it's not the political party that makes the difference. It's the elected officials that matter most, what is their mindset? Is it for the benefit of the people or is it their own wallets?

You are very right in saying that it is the elected officials who matter most.

@franxav The political party can't change a thing.

What happened here on the 6th is very rare in America. It's been a tense year all around but that incident needed to happen to bring attention to outside influences happening within our walls. No government form is perfect but always striving to do better should be the goal. LIke @kobesbuddy said it's the surrounding officials that keep a democracy in place. Good luck to you and West Bengal.

I agree with you fully. No form of government is perfect but striving for the better should be the goal. Here in India, which prides herself to the largest democracy, the election process could be more free and fair.

Thankfully, in Australia, most people abide by the voting outcomes and don't make too much fuss about it - not to the point of too much violence anyway.
