For my friend’s granddaughter

My friend’s granddaughter dropped by to pick up the perfume and cream she wanted us to bring home to her father if not because of the lockdown that had us stuck up here in NZ. She will just send the items via international courier. I asked her if she wanted some fresh lettuce and she said she’d loved to so I went to the garden to harvest some for her. I also picked 5 tomatoes to go with the lettuce. She’s here in NZ to pursue masteral studies but she fell in love with New Zealand that she wants to stay for good. Her student is expiring on March 11 and our interim visa is expiring too a day after. She’s been trying to find an employer so that her visa can be converted to work visa but has been unlucky to find one. I still wish she can find one to fulfil her dream of staying here for good. She’s the only daughter and child of my friend’s daughter.

I can understand falling in love with NZ. I love the documentaries. You should take photos and share of what is around you.

I hope things work out for her and for you, too. My older son spent 3 weeks in NZ with his wife and loved everything about it. I’d love to visit it, too.

Hope you can visit New Zealand someday too. I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip. I also hope things work out for the girl. She's very cute but intelligent. You'd think she's just an elementary student. I'm sure a traffic officer would think she's just 10 or 12 :) Lunch is ready so I'm logging out for now :)

Thanks and yes, New Zealand is indeed a beautiful land. We're just visiting our daughters though and got stuck up here because of the pandemic. Once in a while though, we were still able to go and see beautiful places.

Hopefully, the young girl will be able to find employment and not have to leave. Do you have your trip back booked yet?

I hope she does find employment. We have not booked a flight yet as we are unsure of what is happening. Our supposed flight home last June was cancelled by the airline.

NZ also under lockdown? For how long?

At the moment it’s not internal lockdown - it’s the border for incoming international flights that have restrictions like the mandatory 14 days quarantine and only returning citizens and residents allowed to come in.

The lettuce and tomatoes look great. Will you be able to extend your visa if necessary?

@jaboUK Yes, "exiled" for almost a year now. It will be exactly a year on March 12.

I do not know if our interim can be extended. If possible, I would want to go home though.
