Nursing home life with Alzheimer's disease

Many of you know I live in a nursing home setting. It is a lot better than being at home, really. This is the second time I'm trying to enter a post. I wrote it all on the Mylot post page and promptly lost it and I could never find it again. Ok, nursing home life is OK. I spend most of my time in bed, though. The CNAs get me up, but I have to go back to bed within 3 to 4 hours. I stay busy on my tablet to keep my mind busy. I try to learn interesting science and biology things. Typing is a chore due to shaking tremors. I say "shaking" because my tremors are big. OK, prior to entering the nursing home, I had a history of getting lost when I was driving in town. For instance, one day I was out shopping with my daughter and when driving home, I was at the i was sure d. i dif ii would die intersection I needed to be in. Guess what! I did not recognize where I was. It was as if I had never been there before. I was at the light and I was in the left hand turn lane, like I was supposed to be, but I was panic stricken. The light was green but I could not move the car. My daughter was yelling at me to turn but, I couldn't do it. I was crying and I couldn't breath because my panic was so intense. Cars were child me and horns were blasting. My daughter screamed for me to turn and somehow I pulled myself together enough to make the left turn. I was still lost, but I listened to my daughter and her directions got us home. That is one time of getting lost. I have gotten lost while out walking. Moving on now, I broke my hip 3 years ago and I have been in a medical facility ever since. Life is pretty good. We have WIFI and a huge TV flat screen on the wall. I am more of a YouTube watcher than a TV watcher. I keep the TV on for my roommate. She doesn't communicate well, but she watches TV. She sometimes seems to pay attention to it. Anyway, I have trouble with short-term memory. I usually have no memory of the day before. I won't remember meals unless they are Italian meals like spaghetti or lasagna. There isn't much else I would remember, yet I know it is all usually tasty. Well, let's leave this discussion where it is. There is probably more, but I'm tired and this post is big. Photo is mine.

I am glad that you are in a good nursing home, you are surely better than at home. It does not matter if you cannot remember everything, just keep your mind active.

Thank you for this post. You make it seem not so bad. I live in fear of having to go especially now. I have been told by some that I don't get enough money to afford a good place and some of the nursing homes in my area are pretty bad. I really love my tv time. Plus I would so miss my family I think. So glad to see you friend looking so good

Thanks so much. Its not hard to get into a good nursing home, and hardly anyone can afford self pay. If you get social security or SSI, you go to your doctor to get things rolling. You get a diagnosis, and your doctor will help guide you. I went from the hospital straight to the nursing home. I went to Athens first for rehab and then transferred here. I wanted to be here, so when a bed got open, I transferred here. Social workers are the ones to help you. They helped my daughter place me in the NH.
