Don't you think it's weird that to sign up for a g-mail account you have to give them your phone number so they can send you an invitation code? Why are they the only e-mail site that you have to do this? What do they do with your phone number?

They do it so that they can make sure you don't sign up for more than 10 accounts for one phone number. Just terms and security stuff.

You can't do that with gmail because they text you an invitation code.

i guess it could be optional. you can open a gmail account from some who already has a gmail account, they could send you an invitation to open a gmail account. By the way i have 100s of gmail invites with me with no use, nowadays nobody wants it, if you want it send me a P.M. to receive it, I would be happy to give it to you.

You probably didn't have to give your phone number because you had an invite.

I am not familiar with g-mail, but I would not give out my phone number if necessary to use it, I'd use another service.

I opened one because if you have one and buy stuff online they give you $10 off.
