Dividend Jumping: Part Six

Okay, OKAY Porwest. Let's start digging in shall we? Now that we've gotten some of the 'philosophy' out of the way, I guess it is time to start digging in to what we are setting out to do here. Pardon me in advance that while this is simple, it is also complicated. It just is what it is. And to that end there does need to be some groundwork laid before we can REALLY get to the meat of that matter here. What is dividend jumping, and how do I do it? Unfortunately that is something we will still need to get into a bit later. But trust me, I will get there soon. Some basic ground still needs to be covered yet so it can be fully understood what we need to know in order to be 'informed' when we pick a stock to dividend jump. In part two I explained what dividends are. But now we need to know a little bit more about dividends. There are essentially three things I am going to focus on here; the announcement date, the ex-dividend date, and the payable date. The ex-dividend date is the one part we need to be very aware of, and understand the mechanics of in order for the process to work in our favor. AND it is what complicates matters a bit as well. I will explain the ex-dividend in more detail later.

@porwest Most people don't understand the world of finances and investing, so it doesn't make any sense to them. I have always been interested in finances/investing, and I think it's a big part of the reason I was able to retire from my career at age 50.

Glad to hear it. This series has been a bit of a dud, but not surprising. But I am going to continue writing it anyway. I have parts 7-9 written already, and I will post them sans responses or not. lol

@moffittjc Early retirement is definitely possible when people understand the inner workings of all things money. I try very hard to get people in the mindset that making money is not necessarily only a product of earning a paycheck, but rather, holding onto as much of what you make as possible and making money on money you have already busted your butt for.

Thank you. I do appreciate that. I realize this sort of thing only interests a handful of people, but I am having fun writing the posts, so I guess even if they fall on mostly deaf ears... It is still worth it.
