Masks no longer required in my city...

Jacksonville, Florida
March 27, 2021 2:07am CST
I just read where the Jacksonville mayor has lifted the mandate to wear masks out in the public. However he did say that businesses can still require it if they feel it necessary. Some businesses said they would require it, especially if it makes some people uncomfortable. But as for going out and about and doing normal things, apparently Jacksonville doesn't have to wear a mask anymore. I still plan on wearing one just for my own safety until I see a little bit better results. But I do take long walks now without having to wear them. I wonder if it will change in our apartment complex, since he's lifted the mandate. I guess we'll see come Monday.

Won't that be harmful because the virus will now spread even faster?

Under normal circumstances. However, because a large portion of Jacksonville has gotten both covic-19 vaccines, I guess they feel safer. I still want to wear mine, especially in places with high traffic.

@teresatrotter Your lucky. Here it's very few people who have gotten it. If you don't work on essential service or your not over 58years you will not considered here to get the vaccine

@mosherii - Well... I am 62 about to be 63. I was able to get it because I live in a senior living facility, and I am also disabled. Florida just opened up for folks who are now 50 years old. It took a while for that to happen. Unless someone is a school teacher or works in as a first responder...anyone under 50 years old, can't get the vaccine yet.

I thought that we still need to wear face masks even the people who were vaccinated.

@teresatrotter Okay. That is what some of the experts claimed.

You do unless the governor or mayor says otherwise.

I think it is nothing harm to wear a mask and I will take it off when the Covid-19 is really under control. I am not in a hurry to take away the mask.

If there is a chance of virus transmission, precautions should be taken. In the UK, not many people wear masks outdoors, but will always do so of going into a shop, etc. The outdoor precaution is social distancing - 2 metres - and not gathering in groups of more than two people, although these rules are currently being relaxed.

Our state has had a lot of people vaccinated, and many carry the antibodies because they were infected at one time. For me... I will still try to protect myself. But if I am around someone who is not wearing a mask, then I am protecting them...but they are not protecting me.

As it should be, for whatever it is worth. It's a free country and the masks never worked anyway. At some point we just have to get back to reality and a dose of normal. This whole thing was just a bit crazy, including our reaction to it. Time to come to our senses and end this nonsense.

I would still wear if I were in Jacksonville. It is better be safe than sorry. But in fairness, having such policy simply means you have less cases there.

Well... Florida has had a lot of cases. Jacksonville has had moderate cases. However, since we are a retirement state...many have had both vaccines. Plus... Due to the high cases of covid-19...those who have recovered have some form of immunity, which makes it less likely to spread the virus. So for a while we were one of the worst states, but now we are one of the best states. Not all cities are doing this... But Jacksonville has been on a steady decline of cases.
