Not happy...

The manager was not in today, but I just found out our property was bought out. Which explains all the renovations. The investor wanted to put up a new building so they could get market rate. What they don't get is they are already getting market rate, anyway; because the government is paying the rest of what we don't pay. The only way they could get approval to build the additional building was they had to make ours look the same. However... It also means there is a good chance we will lose the staff, and some of the outside services. It could be very different in a couple of years. They are saying the current staff will remain in place until the renovations, but there are no guarantees afterwards. I don't want it to change. I feel like every time I find something good...something happens. Now... I am not looking forward to the renovations. Sigh...

I know how you feel since there are rumors that my relatives and myself may have to move soon if the current owners of our housing authority will want to renovate our houses. I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is a just a rumor.

Apparently... The only part of the industry was the non-profit side of the company. The actual company still owns the property, and we are not going anywhere. Yay!

Same thing happened to the last apartment complex we lived in before we bought our house. A lot of things changed, THey stopped taking section 8, (which didn't affect my husband or I personally), but half the people living in the complex had to move out. They did a lot of upgrades (like re-opening the fitness center) And made people pay for cable and water. (added to their monthly rent). We bought our house shortly after the buy-out was complete. Because, one we were tired of renting, and two we risked losing the advantage that our landloard was able to provide us because she was no longer in charge.

I don't have enough funds to buy a house. So I would end up homeless again, and I will die before I put myself through this again. This company does have some reputation of renovating HUD properties. But I have not a lot of knowledge what they do after that... I love the staff here, and I will miss them terribly. They have become family to me. Where we are at...the last company went above the call of duty. Provided us with holiday parties, gifts for Christmas, and other celebrations. We had a council committee that was given $100 a month towards our funding. Since the buyout they have received nothing. So more than likely the committee will cease, as well. So without the funding, most activities will completely cease. I do all the birthday cards, so I imagine that I will have to stop that too...since they pay for all the cards. The only thing I can do is personally give a few to some of the ones I have gotten to know. I am personally scared, and devastated. I have nowhere to go. I had to wait four years to get into this place. I got in six weeks before the pandemic hit. I never really got a chance to enjoy all the programs here.

@teresatrotter I'm happy to hear that. I mean last thing you need is to be out-priced from your home. The renos might be an annoyance, but when it's all over, it'll be worth it.

I know how you feel but since there is nothing you can do you just have to go along with the renovations and hope for the best
