I wanted to see if I could get some opinions on a gift I have been working on for the ladies in my family. I dont have much money, so over the last few months I have been getting sample shampoos, hairsprays, make up, lotions, etc. I have also got some pocketbooks. I was thinking of putting a little gift bag together for my mom, mother in law, sister, and a few other ladies in my family. Would this be something that you would appreciate getting? I am tryingt o do something, because I dont like going to have christmas with my family and not bring anything. But yet they all know that we are putting our kids first. Also wondering if you have any ideas on stuff that would work for the guys in my family. any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I think that your idea for gifts for the females in your family is great. People have lost sight of what Christmas is really all about. Gifts don't have to be expensive as long as they come from the heart. I would love a gift like that! Samples are great! It's fun to try out new things. For the guys maybe if you can a $5 blockbuster card, bag of popcorn (you can get this from the grocery store, or Sam's club - it's cheaper) or a box of movie style candy. And Blockbuster is having a promotion right now that if you buy $50 in giftcards you get a free gift card. If I can think of anything else for the guys, I will let you know.

It depends on what your family is like. My family would enjoy that, and would appreciate the thought behind it and the time and planning as well. It could be a bag to throw in their suitcase when going out of town, so they do not have to pack full size. For men, how about similar sample sizes? Put them in a shaving kit. A copy of a favorite magazine might be good. Something that represents a favorite hobby--a unique coin, new quarter or something for a coin collector.New key chain for someone who is really into his car. Luggage tags. It does take a lot of thought, but it is better than just running out to buy any old "something" like a million others they might have.

I think the sample idea is really cute tie them up in a little bag with a bow or something. For gifts I have done cookies in a jar. Buy jars and find a cookie recipe print it out on small little cards. Then layer all the dry ingredients for the cookies in the jar and tie the recipe around the top of the jar with a nice bow,

hi,like your thought!it is a great idea, sample shampoos for the ladies.heres a thought, how about getting the ladies,a cupon as well.why don't you give the ladies of your household esp your wife, sister and mum a coupon where you promise to be theier cook cumm housekeeper for a day. i am sure that they will not only appreciate that but also come to love tht idea. similarly for the guys you can give them a coupon, where you promise to clean their garage, wash thier car and stuff like that for one day. this way you would be giving something very valuable to your family- your time! just a thought, tell me what you think of my ideas! http://www.christmasgifts.com/ http://www.christmasgifts.net/

That is a really good idea, giving your time to someone to help them out is probably the best kind of gift.

That is a good idea, baking something for each person can be time consuming and sometimes costly but it's still a good idea.

Yes I think that's a neat idea. I like samples because I want to know how good a product is before I actually purchase it. How about something similar for the guys? I know you can get sample shampoos and soaps. Can you get a sample men's cologne and after shave? If not you can find some neat stuff at Dollar Tree or $1 stores like that.

This is an interesting idea. I am sure most people have never thought of this one. I remember one yr. I lost all of my Presents on Greyhound somehow, and so I had no choice but at the last moment get most everyone presents from the Dollar store. It was a lot of Lotions, etc. that yr. Most people are Glad to receive stuff like this to be able to use, especially if they do any type of traveling.

Hi! I think this is a wonderful, creative idea! Good job! Maybe another thing you could do is get perfume samples from cosmetic counters and include those. That's the only thing I personally would want to see added if I were to receive a gift like this. I would love to receive a creative gift like this! As far as the guys go, buying gifts for guys is hard. How about fast food coupons (like McDonalds) or video rental gift certificates? Most guys seem to like food and movies! Hope that helps! :-)

I think what you are doing for the women is great. Any gift that you put thought and your heart into is. As foir the guys, what about snacks. You can go to the dollar store or Walmart and get packages of individual wrapped candy and distribute into how many bags you need.

that's a good idea. i'd rather get things i NEED than things that ill just leave to get dusty under my bed. anyone could use the things you mentioned, so you also dont have to worry about picking the right thing for the right person. when you get to someone who is quite picky, its really difficult to find them a present you know they'll like. i have no idea what you could do for the guys, but maybe the same thing. instead of makeup and lotions you could do razors and aftershave and cologne.

I think that is a wonderful idea! All women love getting little things like that, I know I would. I, too, am in the same position...I can barely pay the bills, but do not want to leave anyone out at Christmas...it's always rough trying to figure out something like that...I think it's a great idea..for the men, do the same thing, but along with shampoo, get shaving creme, a pack of disposable razors, maybe some deodorant, etc...all men have to wind up buying stuff like that just as us women have to buy shampoo, etc. Great idea and I might try something like that myself!

Hey there:) I am getting creative with my Christmas ideas...I am putting together little books of prayers and inspirations and stuff for my family. I bought some nice paper and I am going to use coloured pens n stuff and see how they turn out, wish me luck. I also heard that making soap is not all that hard and can make a really nice gift.

I am planning on dong the same thing here. I use all kinds of methods for getting freebies. Everything from coupons, rebates (I love the staples easy rebates and the rite aid all in one rebates because you submit online and don't have to send anything in) to offers like the coke rewards and more. There is a website online where I get most of my information from. It is http://www.refundcents.com Part of the site is for members only but you can try it out for $4 for 3 months. Note that I have NOT posted a referral link so will NOT be profiting from sharing this info. In my family, I often just get the men a case of their favorite pop. Purchased on sale of course at a grocery store that I get rewards from, lol. That is if I don't think I have anything else ready to give. I have also given batteries, cans of mixed nuts (purchased b1g1f), gloves, socks or anything else I was able to get cheaply on sale, clearanced or with coupons and rebates. Believe me, you can look like you spent a LOT, without actually spending much at all.

You could do the same for the guys. Shampoos and sample after shave things for men and pace them a caddy for the bath room. That way you really don't have to spend much and still have a gift you know everyone will use and still have something they can use after the samples are gone.

I think your ideas are great and very sweet. There was a time in our lives where there was no money and i did something similar. But i bake some cookies and some bread things like that then i went to the dollar store and bought some candles little ornaments and pretty napkins total cost was like $10 and that was for 4 gift baskets. So Your idea is a good one go with it.

well - its really nice to see that you genuinely want to give them something as a shristmas present and that youve put in a lot of effort trying to do that - and im sure that thats what they would see as well more than the monetary valueof the christmas present that you actually give - its the love in your heart for them that makes a difference - or at least thats they way i see it - and im sure they see iot the same way too anyway , having said that i think it would also be nice to give the ladies a preshly picket bouquet - perhaps from the your garden or something? i dunno - maybe it sounds a bit corny or whatever - but if it was me - i would really appreciate something like that im not too sure about the guys though - i dont know what would make a good gift for a guy well - anyway - iwish you good luck!
