Wonder potatoes

We've been needing rain so bad for weeks now. We got a few showers lately that we're thankful for, but need more. My husband waters the garden and some of the flowers, but real rain is so much better. He dug up some of the potatoes in the garden and they were so yummy! I've made mashed potatoes, stewed potatoes, and fried potatoes. With no more rain than we've had, it's a "wonder" they grew into potatoes! Now I hope the squash, okra, and tomatoes will continue to grow. Do you have a garden this year?

I hope to plan a small garden this next fall, I'd love to grow my own potatoes and tomatoes.

No garden. I've tried planting, none survive. I thought it's my skill so I try planting outside. The chicken ate them.

@1creekgirl we got eggs but need to make sure it's good to eat as we don't collect them daily.

@prinzcy How do you determine if they're safe to eat?

Any tuber needs a cooler climate which we do not have here. Happy for you. Enjoy your home grown potatoes.

I also dug up some potatoes two days ago. We had rain, the tomatoes already have many green tomatoes showing up, the hot peppers need some more weeks before they produce, the zucchini and Lima beans should be ready in a couple of weeks.

@1creekgirl I hope to have ripe tomatoes in two weeks. It is so hot and humid today. I worked outside and I am exhausted.

The temps are all over the place! Nathan's birthday is tomorrow, but he and his dad are at our daughter's house for the weekend, so we'll celebrate this week one night. Either take him out to eat or I'll cook.

We usually plant tomatoes in our front flower bed. I like cherry tomatoes and the little yellow pear tomatoes. They look funny in with my flowers, but they taste great! We planted green onions in a little garden but I'm afraid the crab grass will take them over.

@1creekgirl They have a different taste but yes, you can tell they're tomatoes. I believe they have a lower acidic content than the red tomatoes do.

I like the cherry tomatoes, but I haven't seen the yellow pear ones. Do they taste like tomatoes?

We are growing some tomatoes, strawberries, a Big Jim pepper, herbs and we have a bunch of hanging baskets with flowers in them. Thanks for the reminder. It is 5 PM and I need to water. We need more rain soon and the fire season has already started.

@1creekgirl Thanks for asking. She is doing okay. The chemo therapy was hard on her, so after about 7 or 8 treatments, the doc stopped it. Now she is taking one treatment every three weeks of a substance that is meant to fight the particular aggressive Her -2 type cancer. she has, I'm not sure how long that will go on. Then? Not sure.
