This is a true life story about a lady named Carolyn Woods who got badly treated by a nasty conman. Carolyn met Mark when she was living and working in the Cotswolds. She was divorced and he told her that he had been married several times but had been single for some time. He also told her lies about who he was and what he did for a living. Mark was very charming and Carolyn soon fell madly in love with him. She was so in love that she went to live in a house that he supposedly owned and she also let him take control of her finances. In the end she found herself without a home and he had emptied her bank account of over eight hundred thousand pounds.

Nobody, not even the most talented conman, could empty my bank account of over eight hundred thousand pounds. Guess why?

@JimBo452020 Hmm. I'm certainly not 'really rich'. But the financial aspect isn't important for me. What I earn a month, is enough for ~two cups of cappuccino in an Italian coffee bar of which there are many in Germany. Germany is a high price country. The same amount of money would probably pay for a meal in a poor country. I'm on this site because I can keep my English 'fresh'. If you don't do something for a foreign language, it will slowly disappear. I have nobody I can talk to, though, which is a pity. This may sound strange considering that an American is living in the house next door. He's a remnant of the American Army division which was stationed in our town. He married one of the stupidest German women he could find and became a caricature of the typical German 'petit bourgeois'. When it has snowed, he's out at six in the morning to clear the pavement. He cuts off branches of bushes which dare to hang over the fence into his garden, and so on, and so forth. I'd rather never talk English again than with him. The people with whom I live in the house have put a garden gnome near the fence. The face looks into our garden...

@MALUSE Good picture, it made me smile. Is he a garden gnome or one of the seven dwarfs or something?

I sort like this kind of story. Whenever I read novels about it or even watch it as a movie, I definitely get hooked. For some reason, stories about psychopaths always catch my attention. Infact, I followed so many channels which feature documentaries about them.

These stories can be really interesting , even though some can be very upsetting, especially the stories of true life crime.

There is no way I would ever hand over control of my life to anyone else. You can never truly know another person.

Especially when you have just met them, but some people can be very persuasive and this lady was in love at the time.
