Saying Good Bye To High School

Thursday June 10,2021 is G.A.R. Memorial High School in Wilkes-Barre Pennsylvania last day as a high school. After that it will function as a junior high school. Many generations have entered the school as young boys and girls who knew nothing about life and how to live. They learned the lessons of life and graduated as young men and women who were ready for life and eager to be contributing members of society Stephen Morio from the class of 1982 has put out a call to his fellow Grenadiers. And, when a GAR Memorial High School alum like Morio, who loves the “bleeds blue and gray,” sends a message, people listen. On Thursday at 11 a.m., the last class of seniors will graduate from GAR High School in Wilkes-Barre. Morio recently started a social media campaign to urge GAR alumni of every age, from every class, to gather at the school to parade and pay tribute to their alma mater. “It’s mostly spreading through Facebook and word of mouth,” Morio said, explaining he’s invited people to gather “on the turf” of the athletic field outside the school by 9:30 a.m. Source:

I'm sure the ceremony will be bitter-sweet. A lot of good memories to reflect on. Though I am not familiar with the school, I used to live in Dallas, PA. What a lovely place. Sometimes I wish I were still there. When people ask where I'm from, one of the places that comes to mind is the little town of Dallas nestled ( somewhat ) in between Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Now we're talking about memories.

A lot of people have fond memories of Northeastern Pennsylvania after they move away. Thanks so much for sharing.

@PeterGagliardi My pleasure. Thanks for the post. Yes, I often reflect on my earlier years in that beautiful area. I do miss it at times.
