I am an Odia. A state at Far East in India. Today a festival starts at our state called Raja. We all Odia Know the actual meaning of the name of the festival also. But somehow we are confused. The festival is now a days limited to new dress and a Doli (fun with a Jhula). India is being identified in the world community for the primitive approach towards females of the society. We were being taught by the westerns, how to use a Pad, How Mensuration is not a bad thing, It's not THAT TABOO TOPIC and blah blah blah. Raja is being celebrated at Odisha even before 2nd millennium BCE. The festival is linked to Bhudebi (Mother Earth, a wife of Lord Jagannath). Raja is a short form to Rajaswala (Mensturating women). It is believed that Bhudevi undergoes mensturation during this time. We Worship and celebrate that. All Girl child is being celebrated. All ladies were kept away from their job and Men manage the kitchen mostly. Ladies and girls play, celebrate, enjoy, have mouth watering pakwan (Food) etc. So The RAJA parva is a celebration of womanhood. History dates back to 2nd millennium BCE. Lord Jagannath and Bhudevi's reference is found in Rig Veda. Some illiterate but power hungry barbarians invaded this land, Demolished all cultures and stollen all our learning materials. Now they get bit educated and are lecturing Indian civilisation. Neither they nor we understand that actually what ideological damage they did to this society an how they damaged a learned society, generations by generations. Happy Raja to All.

Good share...but why blame others when fault is in us? Our generation never listened and respected our grandmother's / grandparents point of view on life , in the the name of civilization, femenisim and etc etc ..

I am not blaming other's because of my situation, I am just saying that I am not completely lost so that they will come for rescue. I am just RE-BOOTING. Consider I for INDIA. And There are many, Who followed their Grand parents and the culture, That is why We are still in a rich civilisation.

@Pani2202 That's great,We need to encourage such activities.its so good to hear the amount of respect women are given. Every Indian should take part in such activity.Where not only about women empowerment but also other, nation development programs are undertaken. We the young generation need to take necessary steps to change the situation and make our Nation a better place to reside.
