Do You Sell Used Items Online?

United States
June 14, 2021 10:35pm CST
I sell on eBay and have been since 2012. I sell mostly men's and women's clothing and shoes, books, and then whatever else I can find that I think I can make a profit on. I first started doing it to put my daughter through college. The money I made through eBay really helped out financially. Now I do it to earn money from home for me. I am thinking about branching off into selling on a second online platform but don't know much about any of these sites: Poshmark Mercari Thred Up Amazon Do you sell online? If so, what do you sell, and can you give me any tips on selling on these platforms?

@prashu228 I love doing it and it's a good way to earn some extra money. I don't know what platforms are available in India. Do people in India sell on eBay?

@Kouponkaren I would guess that they do, but I'm not sure. I hope someone from India, like @Vandana7, weighs in. I use mostly Craigslist here in the Bay Area.

@Kouponkaren When I had my business I would try and sell things online. I would sell my calendars to friends on Facebook. I also sold something my cat did not want so went to Marketplace on Facebook and sold it.

@Hannihar Oh, okay. I don't sell on Marketplace here in the US. Too many times are committed when people have met up to get the item.

@Hannihar Is it scary meeting up wth strangers to collect the money and give them what you are selling?

I don't have anything to sell. If I did I'm not sure I would because I'd need to make enough to make it worth it.

@kaylachan I started off just selling extra stuff around my house...kids things, some jewelry I didn't want. But now I go to thrift stores and buy stuff to resell. I LOVE it, but my husband doesn't think the money I make is enough to make it worthwhile. I disagree, although I do wish I could make more.

@Kouponkaren I did register on eBay but haven't started to sell there. I'm mostly selling on a mobile app catering to certain Southeast Asian countries, at the moment.

I have some friends who abandoned their jobs as accountants to buy stuff at auctions and sell on eBay and Amazon. They have done well.

I sell books, collectibles, baby clothes, some men and ladies clothes, LSU collectibles, and all of my leftover Jewelry in Candles stock on Ebay. I looked into Amazon last year and it looks complicated to get started there so I just said forget it. I used to have a shop on Esty when I was making jewelry. Let me know if you find another good place!

@Kouponkaren Sometimes when I'm shopping if I run across a good deal (especially on LSU items), I will buy a couple of them. I have also sold clothing we have out grown there. Don't really have a favorite brand :) How about you?

@kareng Okay I will. Where do you find the items that you sell on eBay? And what are your favorite brands of men's and ladies' clothing to sell?

Yep definitely. Been selling online since... 2007 I think. Mostly new things but occasionally used items too. I've only posted stuff for sale on eBay US a few times but mostly I do so on local sites. I even worked for eBay years ago helping out both buyers and sellers with their member issues. Ah those were the days. Anyway, the past several years I've also added selling condos (both preselling/RFO and resale units) to the things I sell online. And in 2019 started selling all natural health products and such. Ah it is always a good feeling whenever people buy what we sell which in turn makes them happy too. As for those sites you mentioned, sorry can't help as I don't use them. I don't use sites that require me to pay anything like fees and such anymore. Hope you find a good tutorial online though.

@owstalaga Wow, you are quite the salesperson, LOL. What company do you sell natural health products for? I recently discovered Lemongrass Spa products which are 97 - 100% all natural. I think they are just in the US though.

@allen0187 I know a few people who also feel that way and quit. But 85% profit is still good as far as I am concerned.
