What exactly is 'middle aged'?

People often describe others or just use the term 'middle-aged'. Is there a standard age cut off or definition for this term? Do people get offended when they are referred to as middle aged?

There is no precise answer. There are societies where many people reach a very high age, for example, the Caucasus region in Russia and the Italian island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea. Quite a lot of people reach the age of 100 there. People between 50 and 60 are still considered young.

I guess 40 to 60 is middle-aged. Don't see anyone get offended with it but maybe some

I`m not so sure about it. I think the age are around 40-60 yrs. old. I don`t get offended when they tell me that I`m already in the middle aged. We all get old anyway.

My guess is that when people use the term on 30 year olds, they feel a little weird.

Here we tend to think that people who are about 40 years old belong to middle age.

The age of middle age goes up the older you get.
