do you remember watching the original star wars film at the cinema back in the seventies?

I was too young when the first film was released, but was taken to see the Empire Strikes Back. Don't really remember too much about it as I wasn't very old, but think it was my first visit to the cinema. I wasn't really into star wars back then but have since become a big fan of all of the movies, original and new trilogies. My husband was about 5 when 'A New Hope' hit the cinema and his mum and dad queued with him for ages to see it, but before the doors where opened they had to go home as he had got so excited he made himself sick!! thats so funny. they had to go again the following day and luckily he managed to control himself so that he could actually make it into the cinema!! boys!! what are they like!

I hadn't been born at the time that the first movie came out, but I first saw all of the movies in the series in the theater when they were re-released in the late 90's.

Yes, I remember. I also remember how disappointed I was after seeing it. There had been SO much hype over it and I was not that impressed. I'm sure a lot of it was that I am just not big on science fiction. My husband thought it was fabulous. I felt terribly left down after leaving the theatre. I had no desire to see the rest of the trilogy and I never saw the remakes either and never intend to see them. I'm glad that so many others loved it though. :)

Star Wars - Star Wars
I sure do remember. My mom and dad took me and my little brother to the Centerbrook Drive-In to see Star Wars in 1977 after constant begging. I was 12 (brother was 6) at the time and I absolutely loved it and I've been a fan ever since. I more vividly remember going to see The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 on the day it opened. This was at the Eastwood Theater, and there was quite a fanfare and lots of excitement. I think this was the first time I experienced having to wait in line for a film! Anyway, the Eastwood Theater was pretty state of the art for the day. It had Dolby Stereo and was projected in 70mm! Only one in the state of Indiana at that time I do believe. To this day, I feel that The Empire Strikes back is the best of all the Star Wars films.

Star Wars PEZ - Star Wars PEZ
No, I wasn't born yet, but I remember watching them when they came out on video and then me and my brothers would play Star Wars in the backyard. Ever since then "the force" has been with me. It was so great to have the re-release of the first trilogy and then to have the second trilogy complete the big screen Star Wars cinema experience. To add a little side note and as my screen name might suggest, I have the Star Wars PEZ Dispenser Collector's Editor Set.

shame you missed the 70s release. at least we can all watch the original releases on DVD now as a blast to the past. May the force continue to be with you! :P

For the first one I was nine and it was great. I made sure to see all the others in the movie theater as well. Of course at the time didn't have much choice. We didn't get cable until 1986 and a vcr a year or so later. So it was see it then or you were out of luck.

I was 7, I think and I it was also one of my first times at a theater. I remember that the theater was packed and we were close to the front, and I had to crane my neck and look way, way up, and when the words scrolled up the screen they looked a mile long.

I guess I'm an "oldie" because I definitely remember it being in the theatre and I remember there being a celebration when it was still at the theatre a year later. About 10-15 years ago the three original Star Wars movies were re-released in the theatre and I really enjoyed them then. I was kind of a girly girl when they were first released and didn't think I liked science fiction. To tell the truth, it's still not my favorite genre, but you can't beat those original star wars movies for entertainment and amazement.

I was 7 years old when the original Star Wars was in theaters. I can barely remember going to see it but I remember parts of it. I remember that the movie kept breaking because they'd shown it so much, so they would turn the lights on while they fixed the camera.
