Saving money

July 25, 2021 2:43am CST
I learned how to save money when I was like 10 to 11yrs old. This is because I am not one of those privilege rich kids that gets everything they want. And that's how I learned how to save up. I also remember I was able to buy myself a byecle with the money I saved. I didn't want to ask for my parents something like that because I didn't want them to worry where to get money. So what I did was to save up so I could get whatever I want. So guys, when did you learn how to save money?

My friends all planned on going to a hockey game. We were all about 12. We all had to save up and work around the neighborhood to make extra money for the tickets. Because I had spent some of my money instead of saving it all, I didn't have enough to buy a ticket. I had to watch them all gather with their banners and jerseys and leave for the game. THAT'S when I learned to save money.

@Lindcurtins I bet you were very proud of yourself when you saved money to buy a bicycle. It took me a long long time to learn to watch my money but I still screw up now and am not rich.

It is really hard to develop a save money habit in these days of attractive consumer goods. I wholeheartedly congratulate you.

In my family, there is a rule 'If you have a desire then you have to save.' I started saving since elementary school, at that time I was saving to buy a remote control car.

My parents got separated when I was 7, I lived with my mom and we struggled. I wasn't given pocket money until later, but we had to be frugal. If you learn to save money and be frugal early in life, I think that mindset will likely stick with you for the rest of your life, no matter how rich you may become. Unfortunately not all the "poor" learn how to save money.

That's great you learned early to save money for the things you wanted. I started saving when I got my first babysitting job around 13.

I have always known the importance of saving, but unfortunately I live in a country where it is unfeasible so important to practice.

Good discussion. Most likely, no one in mylot is born with a silver spoon in his mouth. That is why we are here, to earn an extra keep. Happy to know that you've learned the value of money from an early age. A good kid thou art also for not stressing your parents to buy you a bicycle. Parents have enough worry to put food on the table, or pay the rent, or save for school tuition. As for me, I was privileged enough to receive formal education courtesy of my parents. They provided for all my needs till college. After that, I started to invest for a home of my own and the books I love to read. I did put a few change in the bank for a rainy day. But mostly, all my wages go to my godchildren, my nephews and nieces, my sister's debut, a travel here and there, and for friends in need. That means I have no savings at all. But I have a roof on my head and a warm bed to sleep cozy to dreamland at night. The rainy day came this pandemia.
