No social distancing

My husband studies part time. Most of it takes place online, but today he went to the school. They had arranged an introduction day for the new students. Under normal circumstances I think this is a good idea. The students mostly study online and it is nice for them to meet in person so that they know who they are talking to when they meet online, but I at moment I don't think it is a good idea to sit very close to a group of strangers. There were a large group of students in a small room, and the chairs were placed very close together. My husband was not happy about the situation. He moved his chair...and some of the others moved their chairs too in order to sit close to him and talk to him It is not that he doesn't want do socialize and get to know the other students, but sitting close to strangers who haven't been vaccinated and who don't even wear masks is not a good idea. Social distancing guidelines still exist here even for people who have been vaccinated, and that makes sense since vaccinations don't provide full protection.

Very true, full vaccination doesn't guarantee that you will not get infected.

@prashu228 That's right they think they are free. I always wear a mask anywhere I go and sanitised my hands.

Yes, a vaccination is no guarantee. Some people think that you can't get infected or infect others if you have been vaccinated, but is not true. Here masks aren't mandatory anymore, but I still wear mine.

Your husband is right not to be happy, the vaccination does not fully protect, we still have to keep social distancing and wear the mask.

Unfortunately the other students didn't realise that. My husband was the only one who wore a mask and the only one who moved his chair.

@LadyDuck I have seen that many times. In many cases strangers stand too close together.

@Porcospino This is many times the problem, people do not realize that staying so close is dangerous.

Distancing in social setups is very important. Cases are still quite rising.

@Porcospino That is a big issue. Cases even with huge number of vaccinations.

@Porcospino It is a big challenge between restrictions and allowing activities- how to balance!

Yes, it is still very important. Many people here have been vaccinated, but we still have many new cases every day.

Even if they are wearing a mask, if they are very close, they may infect the others.

That is true. Masks aren't enough, and they shouldn't place the chairs so close together.

The chairs should be separated.

I agree. I am surprised that the school didn't separate them.

I would have been uncomfortable in that situation too. Some people just don't seem to realise the dangers this virus presents.

Yes, that is the problem. Some people don't take it seriously. I was surprised to hear that the school didn't arrange the chair in a better away.

Same as here. I distance myself from others while queuing but some just don't take the hint.

Even vaccinated people could become deadly carriers, the best a vaccine does is prevent the disease from progressing into being deadlier once you contact it and perhaps offer some form of limited immunity . Your husband did the right thing by distancing himself.

Exactly, but some people don't realise that. My husband was the only one who moved his chair and the only one who wore a mask. He was no happy to see the number of people in the room and the way they had placed the chairs.

Yes, you are right. Many people don't realise that. Many people don't follow the guidelines anymore, they think that they are safe now.

It seems that people do not want to be sensible.

Yes, most of the students thought that it was safe to sit close together and they didn't wear masks.

No, he didn't get that far yet. At the moment he is taking some courses which will help him in the future. He already has an education, but he has decided to study something else.
