Garage sale

Some years ago we had a garage sale. The first person who showed up told us that he was looking for some bookshelves, and he asked us if we were selling bookshelves. I was about to say: "No, sorry" but my husband said to me: "We don't really need the bookshelves in the storage room. Do you want to sell them?" It was true that we didn't use those bookshelves anymore, so we decided to show them to him and he immediately said: "They are perfect. I would like to buy them" Our first customer bought something that wasn't actually for sale, but the extra money was still nice A lot of other people also showed up, and most of them bought something. I had placed some books and magazines on a table and most people went straight to that table. My mother had asked me to sell her vinyls, and they were also popular. We were selling some clothes, and one woman started undressing next to the clothes. I was talking to some of the other customers, and when I turned around she was in her underwear. I quickly said: "You can use the bathroom, I will show you where it is" and she followed me. She tried on the rest of the clothes in the bathroom. We didn't expect anyone to undress in front of the other customers, and I was pretty surprised to see her in her underwear. Have you ever had a garage sale at your house? Do you visit other people's garage sales?

That sounds like me. I like to visit other people's garage sales, but we already have too much stuff.

I cannot believe that someone undress in front of other people, but at least it was useful to sell your clothes. I never had a garage sale and never visited one, I have never seen anyone doing a garage sale here.

It was strange to see her undress in front of the other customers. If she wanted to try on the clothes, she could have asked for a private place, but I guess she didn't think of that. Garage sales are pretty common here. We often see the signs when we drive around in our area.

@LadyDuck Yes, I agree. If it had been me I would definitely have asked before I starting trying on the clothes. I was planning on donating the clothes I didn't need anymore, but since we were having a garage sale anyway I decided to place the clothes in the room with the other things.

@Porcospino I fully agree that she should have asked first, not only for a private place, but also because of good manners, she was not in a store, she had to ask you the permission to try the clothes on.

Yes. When we are going to transfer to another place my mother made a garage sale to sell out our things at home so she will not bring old things. It was sold out good.

That is great. We also arranged our garage sale just before we moved. We wanted to sell some of our old things, and we had more customers than we expected.

Have you ever had a garage sale at your house? Yes, we had garage sales at my grandmother's place. Do you visit other people's garage sales? Yup, back in the day. Miss going to garage sales and mom and pop shops.

I go to garage sales to find items that could have value if a little work was done to them. I haven't been to a sale in a few years now but I enjoyed hunting for treasures. I have had several garage sales over the years and got rid of things not needed anymore. I made good money at each sale. When they were young, my kids would set up a table while we held the sales. They sold lemonade and cookies and had a lot of fun. Pure profit too because we made the cookies and bought the lemonade.

I have only had one garage sale. We didn't expect to earn much money, we just wanted to get rid of some of our things before we moved, but a lot of people showed up. We made more money than we expected. I like to visit other people's garage sales. My husband is good at fixing up old things.

@Vikingswest1 A garage sale weekend sounds a good idea. My neighborhood has never done that, but I like the idea.

@Porcospino The money adds up quickly when a lot of people show up. One weekend a year, my neighborhood holds a garage sale weekend. It brings a lot of traffic when 50 people hold sales on the same days. One time, I got an offer for an old truck I had parked next to the garage. I sold it. It wasn't even running and I still got 500 bucks for it.
