There are several definitions of prayer: 1. Talking to God 2. Conversations with God which includes listening as much as talking, 3. Reflecting on God-those are just a few and in actuality they are all apart of prayer. There are different types of prayer: supplication, thanksgiving, praise, intercession, and petition. We come to God will kinds of request: healing for a loved one, salvation for another, protection and the calling home of a wayward child, blessings on a church, relief from financial stress, help with studies, finding a true love, wisdom and strength just to do life. The list of requests are endless. Then there are those times we don’t know how to pray and the Holy Spirit steps in for us. Recently, during a devotional and prayer time, I have been convicted that I need to pray for God to help me love Him. That sounds crazy to me. I have always thought it was just a simple choice. You choose to love God or you don’t. I was upset when I realized that I could not even love God properly. I want to love God, but I can’t even do that on my own. My husband and I were doing a devotional by Charles Spurgeon and in that passage Spurgeon wrote “True love to Christ is, in every case, the Holy Spirit’s work, and must be wrought in the heart by Him. He is the efficient cause of it; but the logical reason that we love Jesus lies in Himself.” Sometimes you may feel like you are annoying God with all your prayers-pray anyway. Sometimes you may feel like you are hopeless and have no clue what to pray-Pray anyway. Sometimes you may feel as if God isn’t listening-pray anyway. He is listening, but He will respond in His way and time. Just keep praying.
