Weird Trends: Fashions and Ripped Jeans

Ripped blue jeans have been in style for a couple of years now and I am so glad that my girls are not teens living at home. I would not be happy buying new clothes/jeans for them with rips and tears all over them. Whoever came up with this new fashion needs to have their head held underwater for several minutes. Really? High prices for blue jeans that have rips and tears all over them? Get real!! I have not purchased any jeans with rips and tears so far. I did look through all the jeans at Girl Boss Boutique while I was working thinking that I need a new pair of jeans but could not find a pair I liked without rips and tears and with front pockets. I hate the fake front pockets also. Do you like this new style of ripped blue jeans? Do you wear them? Do you think they are worth the price? Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

I do not even like jeans, I would never wear ripped jeans. My husband has a pair, ripped because he wore them too many times, I am going to throw.

You should sell them online...haha. I know it sounds funny but I'm sure you would get top dollar for them!

No. I don't like them. I always try to find some without rips in them. Yeah I don't understand why they have to be high priced either.

I suppose they will stay high priced since people are buying them. It's the law of supply and demand.

I always assume that those who make up fashion trends for vulnerable woman (like high heels, for example) are misogynist males. I could be wrong, though.

@TheHorse in most cases you are right. I had seen highlights from a fashion show (not Victoria Secret) one time and thought how could someone go out in public and wear something like that.

@TheHorse I remember that. My cousin used to put patches on hers. It seems like the fad has gone totally wild now though.

Back in the 1970s, jeans torn by overuse were in fashion. At least where I lived.

It is one of the more bizarre trends I have seen. I wouldn't spend money on new jeans which had holes in them.

Sigh, I feel old. Once you've lived over a few decades, you get used to teens "expressing their individuality, just like eveyrone else."

fashion statements are fine, but for the extra price they change for abused jeans, pass. Mine look like that now, but it took two years!

Right! And you have worn them and they give you the comfy feel now. How about your girls? Are they into this trend? I'm glad I don't have to deal with teens right now and the current fashions.

@DocAndersen What I really hate is to go in to the store to get new jeans and you cannot find anything like your old jeans. Even the cuts in brands like Levi's and Lee jeans are different.

I think I still have some my old torn jeans from my hay stacking days. But They would not fit my big butt and waist now.

Same here. I don't like them but if anybody else wants them and to spend their hard earned money on a pair of new jeans with holes in them, that's fine.

I like them coz they’re comfortable. But the rip is not as many. I still wear them these days even though it’s not that in fashion anymore. @kareng

I haven't purchased new jeans in several years, so I've had some serious sticker shock when I look at the prices of some of these jeans nowadays. It's outrageous what companies charge for sewn-together-denim. It's even worse when those outrageous prices are charged for torn denim. No thank you!

It is outrageous and crazy! I'm glad I don't have to cloth teenagers right now! Although we would go to war over buying jeans ripped; I wouldn't let that happen. I'd be the mean mom in that situation.

When I was a teenager, in the 1970s, actually ripped jeans were in fashion. We were all trying to look poor. But those of us who thought we were "hip" could tell store-bought ripped jeans from real ripped jeans. That ridiculous "fashion" has been around, in various incarnations, for decades.

Yep, most of them all come back around 20 or so years later. It just seems like now it's a craze and people are wild about them--like all they will wear. I don't recall it ever being that popular before.

@kareng You may not be as ancient as I am. In the 'hood, our jeans were actually torn from wear. Of course, our parents hated it, but that was a part of the idea.

@kareng When I used to stack hay in Montana, jeans would get worn, and eventually ripped. We had to use our knees and thighs to get 70 lb bales above our heads on a wagon or hay stack. I just shook my head when torn jeans became "fashionable" and girls would buy them for like $50.

I agree with you 100%!! Fine to have a favorite pair that you have worn out with a hole or two but to pay money and high price for a pair of jeans with holes is a little bit freaky and dumb as you said!

I can do without the back pockets but not the front. The day I was looking through all the jeans at the shop, the only ones I found with no holes had fake front pockets. I'll have to look again another day.

I remember former American figure skater Debi "Doc" Thomas wearing blue jeans that were torn on her farewell show in 1992 skating to the song "Oh Darling". I thought she looked kind of odd wearing torn blue jeans on an exhibition show.

So you think it is worth paying more for a pair of blue jeans with holes all over them that don't look very nice or neat?
