It's October 2 now but don't panic. There's a little bit of the month still left. That doesn't help much? No problem. We'll go to Plan B. I have another completely true and very creepy crime story for you. This one is very short but it's so cringy that it just might make you forget all your problems. Or at least make them seem much smaller in comparison. Even the problem of October being almost over. It takes place in Coldingham, Ireland. In 870, Viking invaders attacked Coldingham and as the army neared the Abby, the Abbess, Æbbe the Younger convinced her Nuns to disfigure themselves by cutting off their noses and upper lips to avoid rape. That's where the saying, "Don't cut off your nose to spite your face," comes from. Little did they know that the Vikings would take offense at it. They set the Abby on fire, not allowing the Nuns to escape and they all burned to death. My Spiritual Advisor, Sister Gidget Bertrille (She grew up in the San Fernando Valley and was working at a Convent in Puerto Rico when I found her), hates this story. But she does appreciate the perspective it puts on the tough decisions we all have to make from time to time. Having to choose between lifelong crippling injuries and rape only to find that the crippling injury option also includes murder is a little rougher than most of the hard choices all of us have to make every day. Speaking of Gidget, Sexy Nun is a great choice for a Halloween costume. This isn't even my Official Halloween Costume Guide. It's just a totally free bonus tip. ************** Aebbe the Younger facebooktwitterpinterest
