The alarm has been sounded: B11529 has been spreading.

Advent is upon us. Everybody is excited to celebrate Christmas cheer. The parades have come back and people are simply raring to establish life as it was once known. Alas, that has to be postponed again for an indefinite time. A very deadly variant has mutated from South Africa. The scientists are alarmed. The mutation far more dangerous than all the others - from Alpha to Delta, etcetera. The borders in Europe has been closed. Though the spread has probably gained grounds. A reason for the mandatory lockdowns that received much protestations. For those still taking the coronavirus lightly and has opposed every scientific advice, this is the result - an extension of the already prolonged pandemia. I was hoping to get out on a road trip. That would have to wait again.

I hadn't heard about this variant. That sounds very worrying.

The variant has been named omicron and has got the scientists and medical practitioners worried. Travel bans have been issued by several countries for travelers from South Africa. But like the previous variants, the omicron has already spread. It's already in Europe and America.

I've been reading news headlines about this one over the past week or so. I didn't know what the variant was named. Now I know.

@eileenleyva Yes, I did see the name in an article shorty after my reply was posted.

@betlynfrnds According to wiki, omicron is small compared to omega. Learning more about the Greek letters as the virus mutates. But omicron, the variant, has spikes that makes it more transmissible. Let's cross our fingers it is not as deadly as the current dominant delta and the original Wuhan strain.

Austria received the first butt of the very deadly variant. The people reacted negatively. The spread has now taken Europe down. Borders are closed and stock markets plummeted. Another lengthier year of enduring this pandemia.

@Happy2BeMe Germany has reported a hundred deaths. Morbidity and mortality in Europe means it is just a matter of time before the travelers bring the variant to their own home countries. Yes, no end in sight yet.

Yes, I think the world simply panicked because the variant is from South Africa. Should have named the new variant Xi because the original strain was not named Greek.

Yes, I feel that this is an endless war. It hasn't disappeared in two years. This virus is too tenacious
