Is total honesty needed in a relationship?

Are you one of those people who think a relationship requires total honesty? Or a you in the category that believes a little white lie is neccessary for a relationship to thrive ?
If you think total honesty is required then what your reason for that ? If you think it's better to lie at some point then why do you think so ??

For men White lies are necessary. So many of my friends wife's are girlfriends go, do not think I am blind to what goes on but for us to survive I will allow it. Nothing so bad just things that annoy their partner I guess but I laugh every time. I am like dude you gonna get me in trouble and they like nah we will be fine and why do I care I am not dating our married to the other person.

Even "total honesty" words will have different meaning in different people's dictionary. If you ask me, I am not the right person to talk to since I am still single, but yeah, Honesty is best policy. This is my thought process, if you are honest with yourself, and so with your better half then you can have a better sleep at night. Again this is my thought process.
Lying can be a temporary relief but can harm in long run. Because it becomes a tendency and a small lie becomes a big lie within span of say 5 years.
I know myself, I feel uneasy when I lie, So I don't want to be in that situation.

According to an article of Barton Goldsmith Ph. D., honesty is about being able to tell the truth in a way that your partner will hear and benefit from it. Moreover, honesty requires to be tender.

Total honesty in a relationship keeps it healthy though there may be some fights.

If one doesn't have any bad intent, there is no need to question about honesty.
