Telemarketing Phone Calls?

How do you deal with telemarketers on the phone? Do you listen to what they have to say or give them the click? They have a job to do just like all of us and really aren't out to make your life miserable. How many calls do you get in a day? Do you find it annoying to get these calls?

telemarketers - telemarketer
Well I used to have a telemarketing job actually. Of course they just have a job to do I mean its not like they go to work saying "who can I annoy today" I guess they could but I doubt many of them. The calls are kind of annoying but at the same time some of them can be very helpful. All you have to do is tell them you arent interested or you already have what theyre trying to give you. Not all of them are such bad people.

Thank you for your comment I feel the same way. I am glad I no longer have to do that though. It is getting much harder to get a word in when you do make that call don't you think?

I have to disagree with you. It is a stressful job and those who are there to make your day miserable don't last long at their job. It is the ones who are strong and get the job done that last and actually make money at it. They have to meet quotas and are usually paid on a commission basis. If they aren't nice and pushy at the same time they would not make any money and they aren't making money for their company so they will be fired.

I really do think some of them do go to work like that. Just looking to relieve the stress by getting under our skin. I have a friend that is a telemarketer and he is exactly the type that shouldn't be. I think those far out number the tele marketers that have a clue. If I had just a small percentage of marketers that were idiots I would agree that it's not all of them, but I would say that I have only ever had a few that were actually good at their job. And by good I don't me in your face. They take enough time to talk and even listen. Those are few and far between today.

They are annoying, but they are doing their job. I try to be nice to them and tell them I'm not interesting.

I do the same since I used to be one of them. They have to make a living too.

It may be their job and people need to work but I worked for 38 years and never needed to be a jerk on the phone that just interrupts everything you say and won't let you off the darn phone. Of course it's going to become annoying. The fact that it is one after the other that calls doesn't help. Eventually you just burst. These morons, and it's not all of them, need to learn how to talk on a phone and that there are two people not just themselves. You call me I say I am not interested and you say thanks and hang up. If you don't hang up you're an idiot and I will treat you like one. Now I don't get all ticked off and yell. I just put the phone down and walk away.

Actually they aren't idiots. They are trained to ask questions to get you interested. Just as any sales person is. How often do you go into to buy something and the sales rep asks all these questions and does what ever they can to get you to make a purchase? That is the true job of a sales rep. If they don't push to get the sale then they will lose their job. I agree some can be very rude but does that make them all idiots?

I try to give telemarketers a chance because I know they're just doing their job. IF they catch me when I've had a good day or when I'm not eating, I will listen to what they have to say. What gets me mad, is when you politely turn down their offer and they continue to pry. There was one lady who actually had the nerve to ask me for my mailing address (even after I said no thanks) because she wanted to send me some credit card even after a declined...GRR.

To give you information on why they continue to pry. I was in Telemarketing and we had to try 3 time to get the customer to listen to us before hanging up. We had managers watching and listening to us. If they found we weren't doing this they would correct us and coach us on doing so. We were taught that the person on the other end would answer the phone ready to say NO. Some of the marketers will try to push you and somewhat trick you into getting more information. Just some facts to remember when you get these calls. Thanks for the response.

That is good if you don't want any of these calls. Are you missing out on some Good offers or do you search for the one you want?

I don't have a house phone so I don't have to worry about these calls. I use my cell phone for all calls. I tried telemarketing but did not like the people getting upset with me. It is a hard job to keep getting told no. I think people should be more courtious.

these calls are not always annoying... why are people afraid of even attending these calls, if you dont want what they are selling or talking about you can always hang up and ask them to not to call back again and they obviously wont cuz they dont want to waste their time.... the only thing i noticed is people are stupid enough that they think if they are going to attend these calls they are going to be fooled by the telemarketer... BE SMART, you should atleast have guts to talk to anyone, and if its something good u should go for it... but people are usually not confident upon theirselves and they think once they pick up the phone they are going to be fooled.

Thanks for the response. It's nice to know some people actually take the time to find out what is out there for some potential good offers. Not all are good for every person and yet you can come across some that will work for you. You are right in the thoughts of getting fooled. You can always get the information and check them out online or with the BBB. If it is a good offer they will be listed with them.

I find their calls very annoying. And I just hang up on them. No need to waste my time or their time either. Now that I've only got my cell phone the only telemarketer that calls is my credit card company calling about offers. That drives me crazy too. I know they're just doing their job and it's got to be one of the worst jobs out there.

well, i agree that they are just doing their job, but when the same person calls numerous times, or a person just wont listen to no thank you...heres some ideas: say "hold on" put the phone down and eventually they will hang up lol say "im having dinner, please give me your home phone number so i can call you when ur having dinner" and my favorite, act like you dont speak english lol
