When I announced I’d be celebrating Valentine’s Day with “kissing” songs this year there were probably a couple that popped into your head immediately. You’ve been waiting patiently. Well, here’s the first one that you were waiting for. For your dining and dancing pleasure, today’s song with “kiss” in the title.
#5: Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’ - Charley Pride
Well duh.
And yes, it’s country music, but nothing nearly as bad as the “severe country music warning” which is out for tomorrow’s song.
But let’s talk about today’s tune.
Wow.
A Grammy winner. A top five POP song. One of the great iconic songs in country music history. One of those happy, upbeat songs that undermines the notion that country music is cry-in-your-beer stuff.
When Pride died from complications of covid in late 2020 he had been married for 64 years. She even forgave him for an affair he had in the late 70s, proving she really is an angel.

I used to love to listen to Charley Pride, my mother had his first album and we would sit and listen to him together.

It’s an album cover, and they did a lot of air brushing back then. Even now! One thing I noticed that they always fixed Ira and Charlie’s teeth on the covers of Louvin Brothers albums.

@FourWalls Vince added a tooth to a niece once. She was waiting for an implant or a bridge or something but in the meantime, he gave her a tooth. And once he swapped heads of two people in a group. That was pretty funny!

What I knew about the late Charley Pride is that he was also a former Major League Baseball player before he pursued his dream as a recording artist.
