Al Capone ran the maufia in Chicago. He was known for tracking down his enemies and having them eliminated. On February 14, 1929, a group of seven men, just happening to be Capone's rivals, were lined up against an alley wall at 2122 North Clark Street in the Lake View community and were then shot to death. This mass murder goes down in history as "The Valentine's Day Massacre". It is said that members of Al Capone's gang disguised themselves as policemen and murdered members of the George "Bugs" Moran gang. Capone was never linked to this crime. No one was ever arrested or brought to trial. During the time this killing was being committed, though Capones was blamed for the crime, he was known to be at his vacation home in Florida. Al Capone did do short periods of time behind bars for some minor crimes but after doing an 11 year stretch in Alcatraz he was released and spent the rest of his life as a recluse.

Another important detail is that Al was released because he was dying of late-stage syphilis and he was completely insane when they let him out. If you've seen the picture of him fishing in his swimming pool, that wasn't staged as a joke. He had asked to go fishing on his boat and his friends just led him out to the pool and told him he was on his boat.

Yes, I recall that he had syphilis. How sad he was treated like that.

Interesting post about the kid. The Valentine's day incedent goes down in history and is known and still remembered my many. Capone is seen as a legend. With all of his various enterprises legit and not legit, he was cheered by the public for his good works. Gave a lot to charity and places like soup kitchens.
