This time, it's Grimm's Snow White. This is different from the usual (and by that, I mean, the Disney version) Snow White story we know. It says Grimm's in the title so... I expected it to be darker, perhaps? I'm not even sure if Disney came out with a live action version yet. I know there is that old cartoon... Oh, I remember now, there was some recent controversy about a live action version that's supposedly in the works. It started out with their casting of a person of color in the role of Snow White, then Peter Dinklage made some comment about dwarves... Anyway, I'm not going to go into that controversy because this post is not about that. This is about the 2012 movie Grimm's Snow White. As I said, it's a little different. There are reptiles here... . There aren't even any dwarfs. They are elfs instead. And Snow White meets the prince early on. He doesn't just appear from nowhere to kiss her... (at least, that's what I seem to remember from the stories back in childhood...). Anyway, I liked this movie. There is just one part which was a little weird and could probably have been done better, but overall, it was fine. Makes me wonder how close this movie was to the original story. Might try to find a book on Grimm's fairy tales one of these days to find out. Have you heard of or seen this movie? What did you think about it? And as before, I'll add a link down here to the Youtube video:

I seem to remember a live action snow white where they weren't actually dwarves but outcasts? I don't think this is that movie though I'll look for this in netflix when I have the chance!

Interesting. I might try to look for that other live action... if I can find it. What comes to mind right now is also an animated version. I watched it some months ago and was planning to write a review here on mylot, but I think I might have failed to do so... I'll try and see my previous posts but if I remember right, I was planning a 3 part post (there were 3 movies, I think) but I was only able to post about 1... Story of my life here on mylot. Anyway, the animated one that comes to mind was Red Shoes and the Seven Dwarfs. The "dwarfs" were actually princes cursed to look like dwarfs... I liked that movie. I heard it had some controversies regarding its marketing, though, so maybe that's why it didn't become very popular. I should probably push through with my review of that if I haven't done so already...

@NatsuYeung Yep. I just checked my previous posts and I did indeed only manage to post 1 review out of 3 planned. I will do a review of Red Shoes one of these days. In fact, I've already rewatched it yesterday! So... that's in the plans again. Hopefully, I succeed this time. But in the meantime, I wanted to mention... I saw this other Snow White movie on youtube. It's an old movie - 1955 it says. I don't know why I thought there were no live action ones for Snow White yet. When I saw the thumbnail for the video, I thought it might be the live action movie you mentioned which had outcasts instead of dwarfs, because I thought they could be regular-sized people on the thumbnail... However, when I actually watched the movie, the characters were still dwarfs. The video wasn't very clear to me, so I'm not sure... but maybe the uploader just used as thumbnail, a shot from a different movie.

I read Peter Dinklage refused to accept dwarf/elf roles when he was starting

I heard that too but I wonder how early because I seem to remember him in Prince Caspian...

It was fine. As I said, there was just this one part that was kind of weird... Kind of takes you out of the story and you become so obviously aware you are just watching actors in a movie. Haha. And maybe you (I mean, I...) start to think, oh if I were the director or the writer, this is how I would do it differently.

I certainly feel that a person of color for the role of Snow White to be interesting.
