Does your brain go "Waiting Mode" too? How do you cope with it?

The author of the tweet is lucky he starts becoming anxious/activates "waiting mode" only 2 hours before the appointment. I'd be on "waiting mode" as soon as I wake up. Even if the event is planned and expected, it still messes up with the usual routine and this creates so much discomfort you end up just waiting for that "disruption" to come and go, wasting time you could have spent on some other tasks. Another cause of "waiting mode" is the fear of being so focused on another task you forget about the appointment. One way to fight this "mode" is to focus on smaller tasks that can be completed a few minutes before the "nuisance", so you can be busy and productive and still have some extra minutes to focus on the appointment, and prepare for it. Easier said than done, perhaps. It rained a little over here, I can smell it: a pleasant scent when days are getting warmer. It might also help to set an alarm and let it wait instead of you, if you trust it to work. What else would you suggest?

I set an alarm and forget about whatever I set the alarm for... (I do set the alarm early enough that I have time to get ready and drive to my appointment and arrive slightly early. I don't mind reading in my car or in the waiting room until time for me to actually be there.)

@DaddyEvil Can't you attach notes to the alarm? I also set the alarm early, like two or three hours before just to get ready.

@DaddyEvil I don't know much about ADHD, it's in the tags because I read this "waiting mode" is common among those with either ADHD or ASD. Then you may just have ADD, attention deficit but no hyperactivity. So you take no time to practice conversations that may happen, wonder about the meaning of life and the fragility of existence... before the appointment?

@sabtraversa Since I use my phone as an alarm, it allows me to add notes to remind me what the alarm is for. I set alarms up to a week early just so I don't forget. (Pretty says we have a type of ADHD and setting alarms is my way of coping with that. *shrug* I'm not sure I agree with her since anger is one of the symptoms of ADHD. I consider myself pretty calm and easy-going.) I set alarms an hour and a half before we need to be somewhere. That gives both of us time to shower, get dressed and drive to most local-ish places and arrive about ten minutes early.

My brain is usually about 3-5 steps ahead of my body, and I spend all day trying to catch up to it. The only time my brain goes into waiting mode is when it comes to winning the lottery. My brain has been patiently waiting for decades for me to win and become rich.

@moffittjc It'd still make sense if you didn't play, you have about the same chances of winning even if buying tickets increases the odds, just by a little. No appointment is scheduled within the near future, therefore I'm doing good. I'm not up to anything special lately, I'm concerned about the upcoming WW3.

I seldom have waiting mode,because i'm autist that seldom contact with the people in reality.But when i'm in waiting mode,i'll be very anxious and angry.Because i have manic depression.But i'll force myself to finish it and take a good rest.Then i'll live as before

@sabtraversa I don't take any medication.I'm too poor to afford those.So i alway self-heal myself.It doesn't work well but truly helps me a lot

@choijungeun I try to avoid situations that cause anxiety too. Unfortunately there are things we can't avoid, so we must endure. Do you take any medication for your conditions?

i set an alarm, now wait, I set two alarms because you never know if one fails surely at least the other will not.... yes, I am an anxious person.

@sabtraversa Actually, having an overactive mind is very disturbing. It never allows time to relax, even when I'm trying to sleep. I take anti-anxiety medication, which really helps with this.

@kobesbuddy I see. I have a hard time falling asleep too but I'm more like a kid who wants to stay up "some more". Glad there are meds that help you with that.
