Moving Is Done!

And all I can say is Thank Goodness!! Talk about a job. We were down to getting things out of the attic and there was a lot more up there than we imagined! We built that house in 1983 and raised all three daughters there. Yes, lots of things in the attic. Ended up leaving the dog kennels in the yard and most of the things in my old aviary. We managed to get both twins over to help but not on the same day. They both did a great job of helping and also of taking some things that were theirs and got left behind and some other things that were going to be trashed if they didn't want them. Our storage shed is full here, the cargo trailer is still full but we have cleaned out the back seat of my husband's truck and the cargo part of my van for the most part. If you have been wondering where I was, we were finishing up on the "moving out and cleanup" of our old house in Louisiana. Photo Credit: Pixabay, Public Domain

This reminds me of my moving to another house not far from where we lived.

We had a two hour drive which made it a bit harder. Just driving was 4 hours gone.

We moved long ago; and one of our girls stayed at our house in LA. Furniture except for things like my grandmother's sewing machine and hubby's jeweler's bench were there. Thank goodness, we didn't have have to move a houseful of furniture. We are in Mississippi; bought this house in 2008.

Yes, hard moving in 90+ degree weather!! We both lost 10-12 lbs. during the process! So glad to be done with it all!

we have just helped my brother-in-law empty three bedrooms ready to have new carpet laid. That wasn't quite as bad as clearing out a whole house but it was still quite a lot of work. It's amazing how much we accumulate over the years.

Thank goodness there were only a few pieces of furniture left there! The attic was horrid. Stuff all the way from 1982 up there. I wish I had more time on the yard. I would have loved to save some of the flowers. The last batch of irises I brought home, never got planted. I didn't even get to bring all my pavers, but it is what it is! When you have a deadline, you just have to do your best.

@kareng Sometimes the time just runs away and you can't get done as much as you'd like to.

Glad to hear that it's done. We moved last summer, and it was quite something. It's a lot of work.

I will never plan another move in the middle of the summer if at all possible. I really hope to never have to move again.

They could have given us longer. We rode by there yesterday after my shift at the boutique and they have not even started working on the house! But it is what it is!!

I have moved so many times. It's a lot of work! And most of us have a tendency to keep sentimental things...it's hard. I have downsized over and over. I need to do some more. I am glad you are nearly done. Be good to yourself, it's so stressful!

@kareng The last two times I moved, I realized just how much work it all can be. Maybe it's because I am getting older, as we all are. I am of the opinion one of the best things a person can do for someone who is moving is to either offer a bit of help, or make them a meal or similar. It's too hard to cook when your home is being dismantled!

@MarieCoyle That is a great tip, and I agree 100% about it getting harder the older you are!
