Would a stranger be trusted to house-sit for a family?

House-sitting job

I realize it is hard for me to find a job based on my credentials. I was thinking of traveling to another city to find a house-sit job. I don't have what it takes as a house-sitter of course but I imagine that house-sitting is not that hard to do. The house owner will not trust a stranger to house-sit his or her house unless they know the person, won't he? Besides, house-sitting is not common. Most house owners probably ask a person they know well, or they just simply lock the house. What's your take on this? In the US there is a company called Trusted Housesitters and people can sign up to housesit all over the world. But all of them that I have seen also require people to take care of their pets as well. I don't know if it covers your country also? Do you have any friends you could housesit for...even for free, in order to get some references?

That's great if a company has employees to house-sit their customers. Maybe house owners often leave their houses, which is the reason to start a business as house- sitters. So you just go to the company and sign a contract if you wish your house to be house-sat. In our country there is no house-sitting business.

I know no one here who would want a house sitter. We can install an alarm system that alerts a local company if there is a problem or an intruder.

I don't know the exact type of work to be done by a house-sitter. They not only have to look after the house but to take care of the pets as well if I am not mistaken.

@yanzalong There are special places where to bring pets, if people need to travel. I take care of the cat of my neighbors when they are not at home, but I do not get inside their home, the cat comes outside through his "cat door".

It's dangerous, you never know what that person can do. You rather have that house protected by dogs because that was my experience. But once, I was offered to be apartment caretaker way back years before pandemic. I refused or not sure what was my response.

You may be right. I would rather hire neighborhood security guard.

I don't know how much need there is for a house sitter but here someone is always looking for a pet sitter if they aren't home.

I think that agencies have vetted their employees to house sit for strangers, but I'm not sure.

I have to say i don't dare to hand over my house to a stranger, even it is temporary.A house owner are barely willing to hire a house-sitter,unless they knew each other,or the owner get the house-sitter by a regular agency.

You are right. I agree with you. If I were the house owner, I would not trust a house sitter.
