Shield bug?

July 25, 2022 5:45pm CST
I am not sure what this bug is actually called. I am sure I have seen it referred to as a Shield Bug. I am also sure I have read that it could be known as a Stink Bug! Both names are not very complimentary, but this is one extremely odd looking bug. I find they are seen in my garden near the conifers. This is often where they are seen according to the internet! What do you think of this little critter? Are you intimidated?

I think that critter is very comfortable in that spot on the flower, As long as it does its thing and leaves me alone all if all right,

Stink bugs do look similar to this kritter but I haven't a clue what it's real name would be.

Yeah, stink bug is what its called where I live. Kill one of them and you'll find out why it is called that! I try very hard not to squish them anywhere near people.

We have bugs here that stink if they get squashed. They look about like the one on your flower.

It looks like a bug I found on my deck. It looks harmless so I picked it up to drop it off the deck and it stung my finger.

Not intimidated at all. These are harmless. Annoying when they get in the house. But harmless. I definitely call these stink bugs.

I am not intimated, but I hate the mess they make on the car. We call them stink bugs.

I am not intimidated but I do not want to have them coming inside, if you touch them they stink.

I call them shield bugs, it seems fitting due to their shape. We have quite a lot but they are harmless. There are several types, and they also change colour at different stages in their life, so identification can be tricky. Many people call them stink bugs because apparently they emit a nasty odour when squashed, but I have never squashed any.
