Forced To Buy Walmart

As you are probably aware, I own stock in Walmart, and for me it is a long term held position. So, today it became clear it would be a good time to add to my position as the stock tanked a bit this morning after it announced decreasing sales due to inflation and consumers cutting back. Not at all a surprising development, and frankly nothing to worry about. Walmart is Walmart, and it will survive rougher times. In the meantime it is simply a good opportunity to load up on shares at a deep discount to value and make a ton of money on the future upswing. Onward and upward.

When I had some money, I bought "shares" on my children. I lent them most of my money so they could have a better future. They are paying me a much better interest than the Bank does.

That is so funny! I tell my kids that when I’m old I am going to collect on my “investment” in them and that they will have to support and take care of me. What a return on my investment.

@moffittjc lol. I usually joke with my mom because I manage her money. She always tells me thank you for being so kind to do that for her. I always tell her not to be too quick to thank me since all I am doing is managing my inheritance. lol

@porwest They are not "borrowing their way through life". Both are hardworking and succesful professionals. They are investing in real state. I can´t do that due to my age. And I´m not interested in spending my time in that. So they work with my money and they pay me only the interest of my capital which is enough for me. Should I need more money, we would discover other ways. So you are right. I did NOT mean what you understood

I have accounts with Ameritrade and eTrade for stocks. Not sure if Walmart is traded on any of your exchanges, but I would imagine it might be. Many foreign countries trade here in the U.S. through what we call ADRs.

It’s time to buy when prices are low. That’s where you make a profit.

@porwest Besides, no one can walk in and buy just a couple of things. Can't happen.

Oh. Most definitely. It's a strong company with a strong track record and innovative enough that it has plenty of upside for the foreseeable future for sure.

@LindaOHio There is a vacuum at the entrance that just sucks your wallet right out of your back pocket when you walk in.

Hold stocks that are stable, like this one. Profits long term, for sure.

Definitely. I like to buy into strong companies with a long history of profits and expansion, and of course those that have consistently paid dividends and raised them.

Walmart certainly offers the right products for the right prices, especially with tighter budgets. So, yes. They should do just fine.

That could be a good investment in the long run. Yes, it's wise to buy now while the prices are low and sell them when you can earn enough more than your original investment.

Is our economy in worse shape than we think when Walmart is suffering too? Usually in downturns people flock to discounters like Walmart.

This is partially true. Or, I should say mostly true. The level of inflation right now is such that any spending is going to be curbed for consumers just to try to keep up with it. Even in the last several recessions, inflation was almost nonexistent and has to be factored in. People are pulling back on everything. Including essentials. When inflation is nonexistent and economic conditions change, you don't change your spending habits. You change where you shop, thus the discount stores do better in recessionary times. Inflation leaves less options on the table and so there is no option but to change the spending habits. The discount chains will see less pain. But they are still going to see some pain.

That's a great idea to add to your stock while the market is down.

The best time to buy is all the time, but a better time to buy is when the stock is down and not for good reason.

I have extra money BECAUSE I invest. I thought that's the way it is supposed to work. lol If one only spends what they have and never saves to invest, they will never have extra money for anything, including to invest. Money makes money.
