Should I do it?

August 6, 2022 4:23pm CST
So ever since I moved to Zambia my family and friends continued pressuring me more and more to start creating a vlog. The have always tried to convince of doing this but lately it’s been a little too much lol. Everywhere I go I like exploring local cuisine and local places that are not swarming with tourists and some of the places I visited in this world are not even on the map lol. I always visit the less developed neighborhoods because I’m interested in how the disenfranchised people live around the world. I always send them videos and share pictures so why is that not enough? I don’t feel comfortable sharing so much with the whole Internet. Just bits and pieces here and there are enough . I will never understand this obsession about me becoming a vlogger. I teach and tutor, develop curriculums, translate and my mom wants me to be a vlogger? Hahahah

Explain that your experiences aren't for the public. Just to share with friends and family. The bits and pieces that you share for anyone are different than the personal thoughts and images you share with them. They should just accept that. :)

@DaddyEvil I have been busy. I have been called back to Oregon later this month to help out again at my son's place. I have a million things to do before I go :) Very nice to see you DE

@Vikingswest1 Oh, I see... Well, I hope you have a good time at your son's house again. (You know I'm hoping for more interesting stories and pictures when you get back home. ) Thanks. I'm happy to see you, too.

I was wondering why I haven't seen you in a few days. I hope everything with you and your wife is going well.

They just see potential in you. You don't have to give in a pressure and become a vlogger but you can at least have this option if you ever changed your mind.

They just think you might enjoy it, since you're already doing the leg work.

Yeah and they think I could earn good money by doing it instead of just doing it for fun. But I enjoy my work. Yes I work a lot but I choose to. I choose my hours. My mom is not liking it and she wants me to work less I guess.

@Greencindere If your blog does well, then you can earn off of it. But, ten it becomes a full-time job. Your mom just doesn't understand how it works.

@kaylachan exactly! My mom has been lucky having a well paying 9-5 job her whole life and she just wants the same for me but things have changed. It’s not realistic anymore.

Do what works for you and what you are interested in doing.

Exactly! Thank you! Isn’t it funny how my parents raised me on those same principles you mentioned and now my mom is the biggest pusher of the all lol

I do not blame you if you do not want to reveal your whole life on a vlog due to the privacy issues. I guess a lot of people like to share their life story to the world while a lot of us prefer to keep our private lives away from the public.

@Greencindere The advice from Twitter from the self help movement is to keep quiet about your private life.

LOL, it sounds like you're already pretty busy! It does sound fun to do a vlog, though, especially with as much as you experience in your life. I wouldn't bother doing such a thing since I don't get out very much. If you decide to vlog, just limit it to what you are comfortable sharing with the public and you should be fine.

Only do what you're comfortable doing. Other people in your life want you to do the things they aren't comfortable doing so they can live vicariously through you... Tell them if they are interested in becoming a vlogger, then go for but you aren't interested. People try to push me into doing things they're interested in doing. Just because they want to do it doesn't mean I have to do it.

@Greencindere Oh, then yes, you really should tell them it bothers you so they'll stop... Are you normally up at 1:45 am? (I was going to tell you I hope you're having a nice... and then had to look up what time it is there so I could get the right word. ) I hope you're having a good night.

@DaddyEvil I somehow slept for 3hours in the afternoon (I don’t nap) and now can’t sleep. So most likely will push myself to stay up until Sunday evening and then get back to my schedule.

Exactly! My sister even admits it that she wants so she can live vicariously thru me lol. I know they mean well and I haven’t been honest with them as to how much it annoys me when they mention it so I think if I do they might stop suggesting it.

You might explain to your family that you aren’t comfortable sharing your life with the public but will communicate more with the family

How do you feel teaching in Zambia? It's wonderful to learn about the different cultures around the world.

Unfortunately I’m unable to teach in Zambia. My qualifications are for English as a second language and in Zambia English is a first language so I’m just developing curriculums at the moment and translating. It indeed is I feel blessed for being able to travel.

Don’t let them forced you to be a vlogger if you don’t want to. It’s not everyone’s cup of tea.

Just do what you're interested in. Don't put pressure on yourself.
