I love eating egg tart it is one of my favorite childhood dessert .I’ve grown up eating them all my life,so I made some egg tart yesterday but I realized that this recipe uses a lot of eggs in it and the price of egg has gone up dramatically a lot recently here.A lot of recipe I like to make uses lots of egg like Quiche,Frittata, meringue and others.I am thinking that I might need to cut down of using eggs in my baking and cooking due to the price hike. This egg tart you see above might be the last one I will ever make until I look for a substitute for egg in this recipe which happen to be the major ingredient in this recipe.I might even have to cut down eating eggs for breakfast.. A fact I'd like to share about egg tart:Hong Kong egg tarts are derived from the Portuguese pastel de nata from when the Portuguese arrived at Macau at the turn of the twentieth century. How are the prices of egg in your country?Would you cut down the amount of eggs you use in your daily cooking/baking life if the price of egg has gone really high? What would you substitute your egg with mylotters?

I often make them, to be precise I make the Portuguese pasteis de nata. Eggs cost $ 3 the caron of 15 here. I would not substitute eggs for those tarts, it makes no sense.

@Ganma7 A custard without eggs make no sense, I prefer to make something different.

Cartoon of dozen eggs here in Zambia is about 2$. The price increased since I came here in April. But the meat price increased even more. So yeah I feel your frustration.

When I reach the check out counter it can be frustrating after knowing how little you buy but it cost a lot more when everything adds up eventually.

Eggs are about $1.18 for a dozen eggs. They are still pretty cheap.

I believe we paid about $3 for a dozen brown eggs a few days ago. (We did switch from white chicken eggs to brown ones because the price for a dozen white chicken eggs is over $4 now.) Some weeks we use more eggs than other weeks. When I made the bowl of chicken salad two days ago I used 8 boiled chicken eggs in my recipe. Pretty doesn't really care for eggs most of the time, so we only use them in recipes that I'm eating.

Eggs are a huge part in my diet but it is quite expensive here and I use brown egg in my cooking and baking. It is much more common to use brown egg here but it's not only egg that has gone up but chicken as well, even vege is overly price nowdays.Grocery shopping is very expensive these days.

@sica98 Most people prefer white chicken eggs here because they claim that brown chicken eggs taste "different", even though it is scientifically proven that chickens given the same diet, have eggs that taste exactly the same. The color of the eggs doesn't matter. The price of chicken has gone up here, as well. That hasn't changed our eating habits, though. It just means we don't buy as much as we had been buying before prices started rising. (Pretty had a habit of buying "extra" canned and boxed foods that are shelf-stable to store in the kitchen cabinets or in the garage that we wouldn't necessarily need for the two weeks that we shopped for. That has mostly stopped now and we're buying things we will actually use during that same two week period between shopping trips.)

@DaddyEvil Me and my mom has been stocking up on some canned food recently. It is cheaper as well last longer. We are trying to save more these days.I am going to the grocery store more often when there is cheap promotion just to save on grocery shopping. My friend even said some area has sugar shortage to buy at stores.

I love egg tart. It's one of my favorite dessert. Eggs in Hong Kong are not particularly expensive. It's about USD4.00 for 10 large eggs, imported from Japan.

I like egg tarts. They look similar to custards. I get my free-range eggs from a nice lady nearby.

Eggs are high here, at least for me. Most are over $3 a dozen. I was getting eggs from a friend but their chickens slowed down laying so I haven't been getting them lately. Despite the eggs being expensive and not getting them from our friend...I'm still baking the same amount. If it doesn't change by December though, I may not bake as much for Christmas as I usually do.

@sica98 Same here. I bake during Christmas for the family and then for the family we visit in Maryland right after Christmas. It'll hurt a bit if I have to cut down
