Getting a bird to talk?

I have a Black headed Conure which is a small bird almost like a parrot. I am trying to teach him to talk and having very little response. I have tried to repetive speaking and playing a CD over and over. How have you gotten a bird to speak? What kind of bird do you have or have had in the past? What are the easiest words to teach them?

Thanks for the response and the site. I will have to keep working with him and hope he keeps adding to his vocabulary he already has.

I have a gold-capped and my understanding is that most conures never learn to speak very well. Mine kind of barks "Hi, Frank" (because that's what we say to HIM) but you'd have to really know him to understand what he's saying. Good luck with it, though and if you're successful please let me in on the secret. :-)

Ours says a couple of things so they do learn. Being repetive is the one thing that has worked so far. Thanks for the response. I will let you know if I find anything new.

I haven't had a chance to work with birds yet. Someday, I would like a parrot.
