What A Summer!

We are in the midst of a pretty severe drought. We've had wildfires all around us and stay on alert at all times. Today looks to be the last day of triple digit temperatures and we are all ready for some cooler weather and possible rains. Our ground is so dry it is cracked and repels water by shooting up clouds of dust. Many smaller indigenous trees and shrubs may not make it through the drought but I won't know until next spring. I suspect some of them have dropped all leaves and are sending all their energy to their root systems. I hope that is the case. Near our home we have lost one large Crepe Myrtle, and it appears we may lose a Red Bud and our Red Mulberries as well. The Mulberry branches are still pliable so I hope they are just dormant through this awful heat. Rains predicted for this Thursday and early next week. Looking forward to it. How is the weather where you live?

I hope you get some relief from the heat and drought soon. It's awful to watch your plants dying.

@Mysticpizza This house is on the slope of a hill and you can see the moisture seeping out of the hill and trickling its way down.

It truly is. We had a nice thunder storm last night and got some rain. Unfortunately it came hard and fast and the ground is so dry it didn't have time to soak up much before it washed away. That's okay too because it washes into our spring fed creek which needs the rains as well.

I think we are headed into fall. We may have had our last triple digit temperatures, for the summer, yesterday! Yippee!

We got over a “moderate drought” (short-term drought, not long-term the way the western U.S. is having) in a couple of weekends. Bad floods to my west in St. Louis, and devastating floods to my east in southeastern Kentucky, but here in the middle of Kentucky we survived. Now it’s quite comfortable for the start of the State Fair.

I have a dear friend in Kentucky. Thankfully they live in a hill. The weather has been crazy.

We haven't had any rain here in quite awhile and the little we did get didn't do anything, The grass is brown and dry. There's a possibility of rain later today but even if we get it I doubt it will help much

Yes we haven't had to mow all summer because of the drought. Frankly, with the fire conditions, we won't mow anyway. Wildfires have been started by sparks.
