What Toys Did You Play With When You Were A Child?

When I was a child, there was no Barbie. I loved to play paper dolls. Paper dolls are figures cut out of paper or thin card, with separate clothes, also made of paper, that are usually held onto the dolls by paper folding tabs. I loved to design the clothes for the dolls. I'm not sure if Lego was available at that time. In any case, our family could not afford to buy them. I played with wooden building blocks. I used the blocks to build houses, bridges. I also played water guns with my elder brothers. Since my elder sister was 10 years older than me, I seldom played with her. What toys did you play with when you were a child?

You played with toys that inspired your imagination. The toys that I played with consisted mostly of dolls. My mother was good at sewing and she would make different pieces of doll clothing. In the nice weather I loved to ride my bicycle, in the winter I loved to skate on the ditch near by and go down the hill on the tobaggan.

It's nice to see different pieces of clothing on your dolls. I only learned how to ride a bicycle when I got older.

@Beestring My God Father used to spoil me with fancy dolls for my birthday and for Christmas. I had far more then any child needed. I remember he gave me one all dressed up as a bride. My mother used to put a piece of plastic over it so that the sun would not yellow the dress and I never ever played with that one as it was too fancy for my liking. I remember having almost 20 dolls at one time, and that was before I got into the Barbie doll phase. I received a bike after passing out of grade 2, and from then on all of my nice weather days were spent out pedaling on it. I really loved to ride the bike on our little back road where there was no traffic and it was very quiet and peaceful.

@Juliaacv Wow, so many dolls. How did you play with them other than dressing them up?

I loved paper dolls and used to spend hours makes clothes for them. I was no fashion designer but my paper dolls had a huge wardrobe. I also loved playing with baby dolls . I didn't have Barbies either they were more popular when my daughters were little. My favorite pasttime was riding my bike with my friends.

@sica98 You have a point there. For Barbie, do you design the clothing for the doll?

@Beestring Paper doll and Barbie has similarities with the whole all you can dress up thing. The thing with paper doll is that it always tear after a while with the folding tabs.I had to always use tape to fix it because I overplayed with them.

A tiny painted metal kitchen stove with dining table and chairs, mom and dad and children figures that matched the little kitchen. You had a wonderful childlike life. Your childhood toys gave you fond memories.

I played with Barbie dolls a little. I also played with paper dolls a little. I never did have many dolls, though, because I thought they were creepy! I did have a Crissy doll, though, the one with the pullout hair, that I loved very much. I guess if I had to pick the kind of toys I loved the most, it would be toys you could play outside, like the water pistols you mentioned!
